Here is a tutorial of how I created terrain from Google Sketchup. It has been a year since my last tutorial on this, so some things have changed.
I used TheOtherRicks course Timberline to use for this tutorial.
Things you need:
Google Sketchup - http://google-sketch...n.softonic.com/
Create course terrain, save as .skp file
Google Sketchup Pro http://www.sketchup....CFSQaOgodG3YAhQ
This has an 8 hour Free Trial you will only need it to export the FBX file.
Rhino - http://www.rhino3d.com/download
This is a 90 day free trial version
FOR UNITY
Object2Terrain http://wiki.unity3d..../Object2Terrain
I used the C# script
You may have to adjust the image to the terrain a bit, but this can be done by re-cropping the image up or down or left to right, or re-scaling.
In other courses I have done, I zoomed in on the course as far as it would go to get me a better image and also a little better detail in the terrain. That is why my last course had 254 images stitched together.

Excellent tutorial! The fact that you used my course makes it even more excellent! So...Jimbobh...How much you want for those files? Keep in mind that I am an old fart on a limited budget...lol. I have an issue that prevents installation of Sketchup, (mentioned in my thread), or else I would make the files myself.

I decided to fire up Unity 5 to start getting use to it. At first I started getting a bad lag while trying to move around. (My mouse would hardly move around the screen.) Since I didn't have those problems in V4, I figured it must have something to do with the new features that start up by default, so I looked into the lighting. In the tool bar, opened Windows, selecting Lighting and unchecking "Continuous Baking" seems to have solved that problem.
I started working on a new course, so thought I would do a little experimenting. I created this course using 2 terrains. One is the course area, and the other is the actual surounding Mountains. You can see the ski area.
For us, playing this course has a lot to do with the scenery, so hopefully theses can be used in the game at some point. If not, I can just simply delete the Terrain and have the course still intact.
Also in unity 5, The Max image size is now 8192. Just FYI.

I tried to look at the picture you linked and photobucket says, "Sorry, this person moved or deleted this image".

I think it's a Photobucket thing. They changed the way their site functions. I think Imageshack had similar issues too.
I often use my own webhosting space for images, but also use Imgur, which is a free image hosting site, if you want an alternative to Photobucket. ore Imageshack

Thanks Daz for the info. I will give imgur a try.
It is fun course to play. (Not exactly a flat course) Will see how it plays in a game someday,
