I may have missed it, but is there a list of "officially supported controllers" for Perfect Golf anywhere?

I just tried a Gamestop Xbox 360 controller that I bought back in 2007, and it worked.  PG sees it as an Xbox 360 controller.  I took it to the practice range, where I normally see swing path deviations of 50 to 115 degrees with my other Xbox 360 controllers, and lo & behold, I'm staying in the 30 to 50 degree range with the Gamestop controller.  This thing looks and feels like a piece-o-crap, but guess what I'll be using to play PG with henceforth ;)

Yeah, my GS controller was great for TW back in the day.  Almost the whole stick is a deadzone... LOL.  Made FPS games unplayable tho.

Well - something had to come along and steal the surprise out of my Cracker Jacks... guess what else you can expect to happen with a cheap controller that's dead on its X axis?

...you will have difficulty drawing or fading your ball unless you use the shot shaper?

Well,  if you could provide the correct answer to the quiz question, you would strike the Gamestop XBox 360 controller off that list.  I'd tell you more but it will give the potential prize winner TMI.   ;)

You shouldn't be getting swing paths greater than 30. Had my buddy try out some custom settings then he started getting extreme swing paths like you mentioned. Doing some trouble shooting found it was only the left stick, so he tried another controller same thing. Ended up uninstalling the game then reinstalling and that fixed the problem. So you may have some corrupted registry setting also. Say registry because we first tried deleting the data folder and let steam rebuild it with no luck. Uninstalling removed all the registry entries which must of been where the problem was.

Veddy interestink... thanks for that info Wirenut, although the 'good ol' boys' in my parts would call you "warnut" ;)  I just may give that a go.  I have no doubt I could have some funky stuff in my registry, as many controllers and beta builds as I've played since RTS-C.  We'll see how this goes... you may have saved me a considerable amount of cypherin'  ;)

Yeah I may try that considering how frustrated I'm getting with hooking the ball wildly most of the time (with the left analog stick).  I have the opposite problem of slicing it though using the right analog stick.  Please let us know if uninstalling/reinstalling the game helps you with this controller issue.

I just tried Wirenut's suggestion of uninstalling and reinstalling the game.  Sadly, it had no effect on my gargantuan swing path deviations.  I'm still in the 50 to 90 degree, mostly of the "in/out" variety, with an occasional dip into the mid 40's, when I take a less than 100% swing.  Oddly enough, the first 5 shots I hit off the practice tee following the reinstallation, were all 90 deg. out/in... I have no clue where that came from!?  I settled back into my norm and ALL of the next 30 shots were in/out in the 50 to 90 range.  Hacker difficulty has found its poster boy in me! :)

Here's some more test data to chew on:  I just hooked up my DS4 controller and went to the Practice range.  Even though the left thumbstick is less favoribly placed for my long thumbs, with a thumb only swing, all of my shots were in the 20 to 40 deg. out/in (not the typical in/out I get with my XBox 360 and XB1 controllers).  I then switched to the right thumbstick as the swing stick and gave her a go.   The results?  5 to 15 degree out/in for 20 consecutive shots!

I shouldn't be disappointed in the results because I can reproduce them consistently, but the experience just feels foreign to me.  For some reason, I have a lot more trouble gauging feel with the touch shots with my right thumb.  I've developed a scaled association between my left thumb and my left arm (as a right handed golfer) in my golf swing.  I pitch, chip, flop and putt so much better with my left thumb.  I wish Sony would just make an asymmetrical PS4 controller with the higher left thumbstick as an option, but that would be like admitting Microsoft has a better design idea.

I uninstalled the game and deleted the registry files (and any leftover residual files).  Went to the practice range after reinstalling and was having similar issues with the left analog stick.  Switched to the right analog stick like John did and saw a big improvement thankfully.  I hit about about 40%-45% of my shots on plane (which is unheard of for me) once I got in a rhythm.  The majority of the rest were between 4-15 degrees in/out.  I had a couple that were 18, 22 and 33 degrees in/out but that was the worst of it.

Big thanks to John and and wirenut48 for your suggestions.  Hopefully I can take this swing out on the courses (which can be hard to do in game and in real life). :D

I'm glad to read that this thread is having some constructive results.  It shouldn't be the case that the RTS-C interface is designed with the idea that the right stick is going to be the weapon of choice?  It seems a lot of us are doing better at hitting the ball straighter with the right stick.  I proved that to be the case on the range and on the course, but the problem is, my short game suffers so badly due to the lack of feel that what I gain in FIRs and GIRs, I lose in shots from 40 yards and in.

Meanwhile, we still don't have any leads on a list of officially supported controllers.  I'll start compiling a list or the ones that I know will work:

XBox 360 (wired and wireless)

XBox One

PlayStation 4 DS4

Gamestop Xbox 360

Xbox One controller is not fully functional yet.

XBOX/Start/Select don't work at all and the D-Pad button mapping isn't right.

This is an interesting read, starliner and I both use a DS4. Like I stated above after he made some changes in the difficulty settings he couldn't get less than 30 deg with the left stick. Switching to the right stick he was getting less than 30 deg, which is the max you can get without using the shot setup. There must be a glitch that messes up the stick values, just need to find where that info is stored.
