Yeah - this is your little football corner on PP, where you can discuss all things pertaining to the biggest event in world sports. And yes, I said football, not soccer. Cuz that's what it is. Not trolling for irate US reactions, just saying it how it is. And it is football.

Anway, for tonight's match Brazil vs. Croatia I predict a 1:1 draw

 

As for the ultimate winner, well, reason and statistics tell me that historically there are 4 teams only who have excelled at this competition over the years: Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Italy. So I'm going to go and declare that my selection for winner is:

Tonight 2:0....for all their attacking flair over the years, their defence has always been underrated!

this is the first world cup i cant call who will win it. spain maybe past it, usual suspects germany, argie, brazil. laugh if u want but i fancy england as dark horses, there isnt one amazing team and i think anyone can win it

I think the Croatian's might surprise a few folks and nab a draw tonight. Obviously depends on how they cope with the heat.

 

England already have their excuse sorted - the pitch. If we win, all well and good. If we draw, not a bad result against Italy. If we lose, it was the pitches fault, lol.

 

Belgium @ 20/1 have some useful individuals but not sure if they can make it all the way. Same with France @ 22/1.

 

@Baz - 14/1 for 3-1 to the neatly trimmed privates. Hope you've had a dabble on it.

Unfortunately Daz no I didn't glad you won a few bob though. I thought Brazil were going to win that a lot more comfortably than they did,

It was never a pen and the keeper should have kept it out anyway and he was like an old cart horse getting down for the third.

Yeah, never a pen.. think the referee felt the script wasn't going to plan several times, ensuring a Brazil win. Croatia were never going to make that game easy and there will be a few nursing a few knocks. Can't say this Brazil team is anything special based on what i saw...

T'was the ref what ruined my otherwise perfect result prediction.

Today: Spain vs The Netherlands. First round games are usually very strategic and with neither wanting to loose, that looks like another draw to me.

But good luck to Australia in the match against Chile.

As for Mexico vs Cameroon, I really don't care either way.
