Great advice on this post Kablammo... I've had a play with these and can now make decent pot bunkers but, unless I'm doing it wrong, the process of laying out a hole for me is now going to have to completely change.

It appears that the process of creating these bunkers involves lowering the terrain from under pre-laid splines, so I guess that best practice now will be to prepare all bunkers within a fairway spline and build them all at once, as each recalculation of the fairway spline will show up where the terrain under the pots has been lowered around the bunker.  I guess that you could add a 'protective fairway spline' around each bunker and lock it to prevent it from recalculating the mesh...?

I think the sooner MJ gets his pot bunker tutorial out in the wild, the better, otherwise potential potties could run in to all manner of issues.

Actually the process is almost the same as for any other bunker and possible even easier as most of the elevation work is done automatically, the only real difference is the pot bunker layer uses some more CF magic.

Tutorial is now posted along with a test library so you can see how it works and make some pot bunkers of your own.

MJ,

In the tut thread, you say:-

*Pot bunkers are almost always places on up-slopes so don't try building one on the flat

Some links style courses do have pot bunkers on flat fairways. So is this a definite no-no with CF?

If you you actually look at where they are located IRL  they pretty much always have a slope, hump or bump they are built into.

You can make a pot bunker on the flat but then you will need to tweak the layers library and the pot bunker will have a uniform depth all the way around and would likely need steps to get in and out of IRL.

You can just clone the regular pot bunker layer and make the depth of the pot deeper so you can have it any way you want.

Thanks for the tutorial Mike.  I was definitely over complicating things...

Has that 'lower terrain' button always been there?  I have to admit I didn't even know that it existed!!

Why have bunkers? They only make the game harder! ;)

I've just started to add pot bunkers to Wells Hollows and I cannot overstate what an amazing job you guys have done...  They are so easy to add to the course and they make such a difference that I almost feel that I've created a new course rather than updated an old one.  They will probably add 3 or 4 shots per round, such is their impact.

Fantastic job Mike and the guys at PP.

Judging by your Forum name, I'm guessing where you might be going with that. I've left room to add stalls should that be deemed necessary by the USA powers that be in the future. This hobby is a good departure from politics for me so I thought it best to leave as is for now. Back to the Pot bunkers tutorial and finishing a darn course.

Is every pot bunker cut at the same steepness? Duplicate layer and adjust settings if you want others with varying steepness?
