Mike mentioned on the steam forums that Course Forge is being updated to Unity 2017, will we see any improvements in JNPG, or will that only be for JNPG2.

CF has to be updated to accommodate the new turf effects.  My Mike Jones Magic 8 Ball ™ says that it'll be released with JNPG2, but YMMV.

Courses built with CF in Unity 2017 will also need a game built in Unity 2017.  Unity 2017 is a completely different beast from Unity 5.2.3 which is what the current game is built on. The lighting is different in fact everything is different.  It would take almost as much time to upgrade PG to 2017 than to create PG2 on 2017.  So dont expect any of the CF 2017 stuff to be working with PG1

I think we need much more information on what PG2 and CF 2017 means to what we currently have.  Is PG2 merely an upgrade to PG1 or will I be forced to buy an entirely new game?

sounds like a seperate game purchase. which is fine. looks great. I would gladly start over with a top flight game. pg has definately got the gameplay nailed and, with this new graphics engine it should be a lot of fun. I'm ready and willing to buy an Xbox one x to play it. even though I currently game on ps4.

I can only 'read between the blurry lines' but, I think that JNPG2 will be a new game requiring payment. Andrew has really confused the compatibility issue in that he clearly says that JNPG2 stuff won't work with JNPG1. However, he avoids saying whether JNPG1 stuff will work with JNPG2, i.e. backward compatibility. I think that's the real question because of all of the course design work that has occurred. Will all the effort be lost or will those courses easily be upgraded to JNPG2. I wonder how many of the designers will want to go through the effort. It would be a shame, if all that work was wasted, IMHO.

They have already said that All current courses will need to be upgraded to unity 2017. I hope it's easy but I doubt it. I'm sure designers will want their courses to have 3D grass.

If it is just an upgrade it will i would think, be mainly planting, surely the terrain data and splines will be intact...thats not so bad,  hours work for me lol  ;) most of my courses will remain with PG 1 anyway...i'm not sentimental like that

Aren't you talking about PP game courses only. I really doubt that PP will be updating all of the user designed courses. As I said in my previous post, I wonder how many of the designers will want to spend the time updating their courses. What do we have already? Well over 100, I've lost count. That could mean a lot of work, and as you indicate, probably not easily down to take advantage of 3D grass and who knows other changes.

This is the first I've heard of Unity 2017.  The talk from Mike and Andrew for the better part of the last year has been upgrading the game to Unity 5.6 (or whatever the latest unity version was last year) for the new lighting engine and whatnot.  If they're going to abandon that and go with Unity 2017 (a "completely different beast" which Perfect Parallel will have to learn), we could be looking at a year or two before it's finished.  Just a guess considering JNPG is not exactly their day job, thus slowing the game development progress more and more over the last 2 1/2 years.

I'm patient and willing to give them the time they need to properly update the game, however the majority of the fan base may not be so patient.

Will be countless lost due to the projects being deleted from designers systems, designers no longer around etc. A negative yes, but I fully expect the benefits to hugely outweigh the negatives.

Let's just hope that Unity 2017 is the version being committed to and they are actually progressing towards a PG2 release.

It feels like the goalposts keep moving, but again, hard to know as we are working off snippets and tidbits of info here and there over time.

I'd hardly fault anyone that bailed on this game if nothing is out by early 2018.
At some point everyone's patience runs out.

Hell - we've literally had a forum member die!

I hope you aren't implying Jerry's death was related to PP in anyway. For all we know, others have also died, but are unknown because they weren't as active as Jerry was in computer golf. Not sure why you made that observation.

Definitely not implying that.
Just saying that we all keep getting older and time goes by while we keep waiting and waiting (some even die along the way).
Not related at all other than more time keeps going by.

Let's not start fighting here Richard - Please?

Buck, not try to start a fight. It just seemed like a strange comment to made regarding the ongoing delays of JNPG. End of discussion for me.

Given the pace of development of PG1 I find it hard to believe that the development team at PG could produce and release a new version with all the massive upgrades that was as polished and complete as say an EA Tiger Woods golf game. If, and that's a big if, the new version was released within a year I feel it will be full of bugs that may take another couple of years to sort out. By then maybe they'll even have another plan doing away with Unity altogether. When you move that slowly the world just passes you by. Personally for the entertainment value I'm looking for this game is good enough the way it is. I really wish it had a career  mode and a small thing but I really, really miss the disappearing ani ( 3 clicker ) lol. As long as third party sights continue to support PG1 with events and tournies I'm happy enough.

Yeah - That's sort of the main issue here with no business model for the game that supports ramping up development resources a bit.
