The 1070 rips at 1080p - it's overkill for just 1080p gaming.
It's a very good 4K card as well, depending on the specifics of the game.
If I had to pick, I'd say it's the dream 1440p gaming card.

(Former 1070 owner here)

I actually sold my 1070 as a 6GB 1060 is much more suited to my 1080p gaming and I didn't want to have money on the table for tech I really wasn't using.

You were really plugging the GTX 1080 a year ago, big time.  Glad you learned that the 970, 980 and 1060 are best suited for standard gaming monitors.  Saved yourself some money, good for you.  Kind of an extended learning curve though, but that's what it takes sometimes to find the right answers.

Really the swapping around has just been about matching the correct hardware with my current mission.

I simply don't do flight simming right now.
My flirtations with VR totally ruined flatscreen flight simming for me and so I backed off on that until the next gen of VR HMD's with more resolution.

(I'm also a real life pilot so get most of my enjoyment in that arena in reality vs simming anyhow)

If I was still into flight sim right now though, a 1070 or above would be mandatory.
My 1060 can do x-plane ok, but it's a stretch (especially for P3D for sure), even at just 1080p.

Just out of curiosity, when was I plugging the 1080 and what was the context?
Was I talking about VR usage?

I believe Mebby has a 1080 - maybe it was an endorsement from him?

Those screen shots are looking fantastic!  It would be cool to see PG2 (it wouldn't be JNPG2?) running at 50 to 60 FPS with that sort of graphical fidelity and caliber!  It will have to have new mo-capped golfers to round out the equation though... well, if the real time motion controlled swing interfaces are going be of comparable quality to the graphics.  I'm looking forward to seeing this become a reality  :)

Looks really good! I'm a little nervous about the lighting given what I've seen with TGC2. However, the lighting in these pictures look really nice!

Is it possible to show us some shots from links courses?  The uniform colours of the grass look okay on manicured courses but would look very unrealistic on links courses where different shades of colour, heights and textures are to be expected.

I think someone elsewhere asked in the thread about the non-spline (painted on) textures and how that would appear, especially in the transition area. Both of these are good questions.... I like to put little color variations in my fairways and greens. I'm sure it'll be fine.

I wonder what the limit of grass height displayed could be. I'm guessing knee high gorse is probably still going to be planted.

I don't want to dive off the deep end of speculation here, especially since these are alpha game screen shots, but Mike has said in the past that he eventually wants to get to a completely splined in course, no terrain visible at all.  I don't know if that's going to happen with Unity 2017 and CF or not, but that's the direction he wants to go.

Looks great. PG1 was a very good base, but makes sense to move on to PG2 and make it more visually appealing.

Second Matt.... shut up and take my money.

Seriously though. I didn't realize how much of a difference it would make in the look of the turf. I'm very impressed.  B)
