Lots of good ideas floating around here

I've attached an image of what the wind profile should look like from a plot view.  Its a power-law representation of the wind as it changes with the height of the ball (all clubs max. out at ~30 yds) , over different terrains.  Two numbers describe each profile - a constant representing max. height, and an exponent  that describe how far down the wind effect is pushed.  I'm thinking a simple lookup table for each hole, as described by the course designer.

The wind direction really needs to be attached to the entire plot , for continuity.  Think of St. Andrew - outward bound holes need the same wind direction due to routing.  Inbound would be the opposite direction (wind).

I have to agree with everyone who feels the wind influences ball flight too much. I can adapt to it, but it's not emulating Real Life Golf.

Here are two comparison shots of the JNPG New Player camera versus the Old.  It may help explain why some of us are saying we're seeing the old Player camera as being closer to the golfer.  Even in the thumbnails (new on top old on bottom), it looks to me like the camera is closer to the golfer with the old Player camera FOV.  You can click on the images to blow them up to full size:

I posted this topic on the same thing, only I included windowed mode.

If we do keep the new wind model, I'd like to see the OOB areas marked on the overhead map because that's where my ball is usually heading.

I mentioned this before it was released Dave, so I'm not sure if it will be addressed now. I really don't like the sideways effect the wind has on chips.

I'm also noticing a graphical glitch on the lower part of the monitor similar to screen tear. I prefer the old FOV by the way.

This screen tearing effect started for me a couple of weeks ago when I installed the latest Creator update for Windows 10. The only solution I found was to play JNPG in a window rather than full screen.

Just googled the problem I just mentioned and this fix for the earlier Creators edition seems to fix it for me.

I'd be happy to see the flag on the pin, move with the wind and the water be effected by the wind too!

I made that suggestion over 5yrs ago, hopefully it will be in PG2.

I would think that if it could be done in an game that was made backin 08, it "should" be done today!

Good pics - Nice to have as many shots of it as possible from everyone, so thanks for posting some more.

I played 27 holes last night with my Uncle.  Ended up sitting in a chair closer to my TV in front of my couch ( ).

I feel compelled to be fair and comment further after some more play time last night and say that, I can appreciate that the wider view can make the visuals more expansive and you get to see more of the course.

That said, while still being fair, I just can't state enough how disconnected & distant I now feel from both the golfer and especially the ball flight in the air.  So many shots had me just sort of watching the camera move and waiting until my eyes could pick up and track what happened with the ball (i don't play with any tracer on - I like it to look like real life).  I really disliked it off the tee where it was really hard to see and tell if my shot when straight or if I pulled it pushed a little.  I really only could tell easily if the camera was moving one way or the other quite a bit (bad shot).

It's just hard to see and feel like I'm less a part of it.

It's like I'm now riding along on a drone watching on a GoPro behind the action vs being a part of it.

Please make this new FOV/wider camera optional and hopefully have several different options for people, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I made it through last night - But had a ton less fun in the process.

That trend is not good and will just make me want to not play at all.

To be honest I played a round this morning after being away since the update and had no knowledge of the update and saw no difference in the view at all.  I now see what you are talking about but again its no big deal to me and probably wouldn't have noticed unless I read this thread.

It's no big deal to me either but I do prefer the previous view. The change certainly wouldn't have any effect on whether I play the game or not.
I don't understand why the view was changed when it seemed that everyone was happy enough with it. Surely there are other aspects of the game that could have been improved rather than fixing something that wasn't broken.

That's certainly ok and likely a view that's shared across many people, especially if at a traditional desktop setup.

I assume you do also acknowledge that it is a problem and undesirable for others though?

The main playing view is far too important and used in too many differing situations across users to have a change like this forced as the only option.

Ditto

This sort of change, for PG1 at this point in its lifecycle, is odd to say the least and certainly should have been an additional option and not a replacement for the main view everyone has been accustomed to for years now.

I would have thought that this change would have been run by the testers first? Apparently I'm out of the loop?

I fooled around with the g_fov setting in the console this afternoon, and honestly, I found the setting of "34" to be the most desirable parameter.  It's even closer to the golfer than what we had in the older builds.  There might be a foot of game space between the golfer's foot and the bottom of the screen with this setting.  I simply like the intimacy of it.

If we can do this at any time in the console, I don't understand why there can't be an option to make the setting permanent?  I don't see where it gives the player an advantage, it just caters to one's personal viewing preferences more acutely.

Oh, I've freed some space in my mailbox... thanks for alerting me to that!

If I'd played it I would have spoken out on it, but I've been a bit lax in my JNPG play since early Spring.  I feel derelict in my duty for not having been plugged in when this was instituted.
