Can I Draw Fairway In Sections?

Best Answer Mike Jones , 15 October 2016 - 04:11 PM

But your picture above doesn't show that. Your fairway stops, there's a bunker, and then the green fringe.

What if you wanted to run the fairway right up to the fringe. Lot's of real golf holes are like that so you could hit short and roll onto the green.

I guess I'm asking if there's a way to make the ending edge of the fairway the same as the starting edge of the green fringe.

Basically the way to what you want is to run the fairway around the green but very close you your green, the fact that you might have a section of an inch or two of fairway around your green and fringe will not make any difference to how it plays and will not be noticeable visually. If you get it too close it might cause a mesh error but you should be good to go with a bit of experimentation.

Can I draw a fairway in sections and then join them together? If not, is it ok if different sections overlap?

Also, and really a similar question, what if you want to run a fairway right up to the green, but not surround it?

Can that be done?

Thanks.

Splines cannot overlap, and yes a fwy can be run up to the green and not touch.

So you want to have fairway touching a side of the green and the rest of the green touching rough?

New to all this to so others please correct me if Im wrong but I think you could just place your green spine inside the fairway spline.

Youd then have fairway all the way around the green though but could run the spines close around the back, or if you dont want that then can run it right up close just on the front end,  but then there will be a transition area of either bare terrain if the fairway isnt inside a semi rough spline, or semi rough if it is, in between the fairway and the green.

Whatever you do, you must have splines

surrounded by an outer rough spline..

You cannot have overlapping splines, not sure of a scenario where you would want that though.

Possibly but even cart paths that go across fairways invariably have some rougher ground next to them and even if they don't, splitting the fairway and having a 6 inch section of semi rough between the fairway and cart path will have virtually no impact on the visuals or gameplay.

My last post on this thread shows a possible solution as Mike suggests

Yes, I know.  I'm working on updating one of my old courses, trying to add cartpaths.  Ripping out all the old splines is a PITA. :)

Unless its a real course I wouldn't bother - real architects spend ages trying to hide the cart paths from view :)
