When I activate advance and go into layers I get read-only access?

Best Answer Mike Jones , 16 October 2016 - 08:00 PM

Your best course of action at this point is to load the default library and then save it out as a different library name. Then import the new library back in and you will be good to go with editing the layers.

Ps the custom library was created my me exactly as described above so you will not be missing anything. Go to the full post

Hi everyone,

Whenever I access the layers the options are grayed out and it says the Library is a default_read_only asset or file. When I ran into an issue earlier I went in there and did something. I tried to reload the assets for course forge and get a you already have all of those files message. I'm not sure what to do without also altering my project in some way. I may just proceed with the defaults.

I would like to know that, in the future, I can access the layers library. How do I regain access to these settings and/or library? Still watching the great tutorials.

Thank you,

SC  B)

There are layers library tutorials now available. You basically have to be in the CF advanced mode from the perfect parallel menu to access any of the LL features.

You have to load a different library than the default to edit it as the default cannot be edited.

If you load the custom library which is included in the CF install you should be good to go.

Hello,

Thank you for the response. I have watched the tutorials. They are very informative. I used to be able to access those settings. I think somehow I hid that data or removed it accidentally. I'll look again. Is there a way to recover the custom library if the data is missing? I have Course Forge in advanced mode. I can open the layers library. It just will not let me access the settings because somehow I lost the custom library. All I have is some read-only default library. I cannot even access the load and save as. They are grayed out too.

maybe try reinstall cf again .

load the layers libray back in, then save it as another name and load that new library back in so you can edit it anytime

always backup your vital info, make several folders and put stuff in there so  you can go back to it, and make another backup of that too

Yep we have been in these situations, so many queries and lots frustration to go with it

Usually there`s a simple concise remedy for any problem arising

Cheers stoney

Can you show me a screenshot of your layers library? I'd be very surprised if it is indeed locked out - click 'load' and then navigate to your project location and find your custom library which is inside your assets/perfect parallel libraries/custom folder.

I did eventually find the custom library but when it loads all the textures are missing. I can edit them at this point but would not know what the correct textures to start out wit are. Here are some images:

Notice that the read-only textures are present while they are missing from the loaded custom library?

Once again I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Thank you again! At the very least I am actually quite pleased to work with the default values. I've adjusted the look some with some grasses and flowers plus some texture blending. I really appreciate the tutorials as well. I have watched  them all more than once and some quite a few times. I still refer back to them occasionally.

Sincerely,

SC  :)

I did try and reinstall course forge but I think it is an issue from within my project folder that I have to use because of the work already put in. I'm hoping there is a way to reacquire the custom.cfl folder into my current project. Thanks for the shout out. Right back at you pingsing2. I really enjoy playing your course, Halcyon Springs.

Cheers,

I would like you to double click the Custom Content Folder on your Windows Explorer view and see that it is empty. When you save the Perfect Parallel Library and reload it, mine goes out into My Documents. There will end up being 2 copies of it at that point. One within your My Documents and then one created within your Unity Assets folder for your specific project. Show me the drop down within your project tab as well. I am providing images to what I mean.

Your best course of action at this point is to load the default library and then save it out as a different library name. Then import the new library back in and you will be good to go with editing the layers.

Ps the custom library was created my me exactly as described above so you will not be missing anything.
