This is just to ask for peoples/designers opinion

Im designing a Par 5 , that resembels the 6th at Bay Hill.

1/ You can aim right to more easily carry the water (245 yds ) , but then you turn the hole into a 3 shotter.

2/ Aming your drive more left you need to carry the water about 260 yds ... not extremely difficult ....but still ..

Now ,,,, To my question ... Do You like the shot point to be placed at 1/ or 2/ ?

Well, you have to have two shot points on a par 5 anyway.  The player tho, is gonna look at the over head and adjust anyway.  So, I think, even if you put it at 245, most everyone will hit for 270 anyway.  I'd place them with the AI golfer in mind, to help them navigate the hole.

Ok ... I ment the shot point for the first shot ... So if I want to have the AI player in mind , and I want him/her to go for the green in two you suggest I should place it at 2/ ? Right ... ?

Your comment also make me think of soemthing else. On another par 5 ... The Fairway is like an S-shape , so I have put the 2nd shot point towards the fairway 100 yds left of the green instead of straight at the green .... still my player aim at the green/stick on the 2nd shot ... I thought it should aim for the 2nd shot point

The shot point quandary:

In real golf, the shot points are set to measure the length of a golf hole. They are placed wherever the fairway makes a major bend and always in the middle of the fairway. With an additional "Center of Green" measurement point added into the mix.

In CF, the shot points also double as aiming helps for players, both human and artificial. They are oriented towards them by default.

Catch22: Either designers set shot points as real life regulations tell them to, in which case they might confuse the players. Or they set shot points to suit the players, in which case they break the rules.

The solution: Have two sets of shot points in CF, one for distances and one for players. Additional: Set shot points for each tee category - the same shot point that makes sense from the back tees is sometimes utterly ludicrous for players playing from the forward tees. It would be best to have Shot Points for distance measurement and individual Aim Points for each tee. APCD had this, if I remember correctly. Suggestions and requests to this effect have been made to the devs for the last two years, but have not been met with enthusiasm, let alone any answer.

Regarding your problem, olazaboll, that means that you can basically do what you want. Use your best honest judgment, it will most certainly turn out wrong for some and right for others - but that will be a systemic blemish and nothing that you can do anything about. You have not been given the tools to please everybody.

I usually place the shot points for the conservative option, if people want to look for other angles to gain an advantage make them work for it!

Although the AI use the shotpoints to help them, the new AI soon to be released, can make it's own decisions and ignore the shotpoints if it wants to based on it's skill and aggression rating.
