Does play from the various types of terrain, deep rough, rough, etc. effect game play and ball flight? I have not seen any significant change in ball flight as I play from these various surfaces? Thank you.

Yes. Simply play a solo hole or two and hit the ball into various terrains. Keep mulligans on so you can do the same shot again and again. You'll get to know the game better by playing it this way.
Hit into bunkers, deep rough (if you can find it) etc.
What you won't see influencing the ball flight is the angles of the lies. You pretty much have to hit a ball that's lying on 60 degree angle to see it's trajectory fade or draw.
