Planting pins must be one of the most difficult parts of designing a course in PP. I say this because many of the PP designed courses like Florida Glades only have 3 pins planted per green. Many perfectly good areas of the greens are not even used. Having 18 pin positions in Links was overkill but come on, how difficult is it to plant 6 pins per green as this is what I see that many designers do. I don't suppose we can hold out any hope of any PP designed courses being updated either.

I'd rather just do 3 per green because 6 = 108 pins and you have to make sure each one is flattened and smoothed correctly, so it's not on to much of a slope or an unsmooth surface but yet it has to be challenging! So 6 is actually quite a bit of work but yes, most of us do that so the community has a decent selection but it is by no means such an easy task, it does take quite a bit of work!

Thanks for clarifying that as I am not a designer. I see your point. But it would be nice to have at least 4, a different one for each round of a tournament.

I used to do extra on par threes, but the guys running the events told me they preferred the same number for every hole.

Unfortunately, requiring 6 pins can be a design bummer. There really isn't a reasonable way to have a small green and 6 pins. You can do it, but depending on green size you might not end up with much variety. So, if effect, either you make all greens a certain size or you only have 3 pins showing as 6 pins (on the small greens). It works form a design standpoint, but players will not be happy with the lack of variety.
As a player, I like to see some small greens. So, as a designer, I always throw in a few on each build.
