How hard would it be to get a utility program written that could convert a user's computer into a server where one could play matches through THAT server (as Links 2003 used to do)? Maybe there's a utility out there right now that will allow this capability. Just wondering.
Legally, the IP owner has the final say over that happening.
Remember, you simply bought the right to play the game on their terms and conditions. They could "set it free" from Steam or hire lawyers and go after anyone who tries to do it by nefarious means. It's all up to the IP owner.
[edit] U.S. only, I have no idea how it works in other parts of the world.
[edit2] And no, IANAL, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

The PG server is already gone after last update. Game is played through Steams server and I don't think Steam is going anywhere soon. Only thing PG server was ever used for was content validation, and maybe they didn't even need a server for that.

In one of the updates the Mike or Andrew posted a while back it gave us the ability to still play the game offline even if Steam is down or it stops being on steam. Yes you will lose the ability to play multiplayer but let's not worry about that till it happens. By then we will probably have Tiger Woods 2021 and 2k Sports presents The Golf Club 3001 with still kiddy console gameplay.

Sugar coat it anyway you want but 1 August is lights go out. LOL! We only have 30 days. Get used to it. The jig is up 1 August 2020. Offline play is a joke IMHO. We have other choices of other golf games but it is slim pickings right now. You got 1 of 2 to choose from. It is what it is.

On August 1 sim players will lose the ability to use PG on their golf simulator setups. It has nothing to do with the rest of us playing on our computers.

Buck, we will see. I,m not as hopeful as you folks are. The path we are on is a familiar on. The Links franchise, Tiger Wood franchise and several others ring a bell. Just a very familiar pattern. So again we will see!

I’m not “hopeful”…
I simply have no reason whatsoever to think anything is going to come to an end.
They were very clear that simulator users are getting cut off
What makes you think anything beyond that is going to happen?
Is there a post from Andrew or Mike that you can point to?

Not sure what you mean by the Links franchise.. I play mostly every Friday night with family and friends connecting IP to IP.. sometimes up to 5 players! Works just fine and has been since as long as I can remember!

I still know friends which play Links via GameRanger and IP Connection. I also know people which play TW 08 via GameRanger. So if anyone looks for the old games, there are still lots of guys playing them. All you need to do is open your eyes...
Who cares...

I would love to have an IP to IP option in PG

we had one in the early beta but it was unusable. I think I had big luck to get a connection with Richard (?) once but we couldn't play as it was very laggy. In one of the next versions they took it off. I would also love to see that option if it works as well as in Links.

I have no idea.. its the only way I enjoy playing Links, with family/friends. I tried multiplayer in PG many times, and its painful. Slow connections with people connecting from across the globe, taking several minutes calculating their shots, players disconnecting after 2 holes because they hit a few bad shots... its crap.
