IMHO, you'll have that like we all did with TW08 and Links 2003.  However, to play against other players online or participate in PG online tournaments we all have to pay a subscription to cover server costs.  That simple factor is why all golf games (and many other games) never survived for more than a few years. Once consumers stopped buying the games there was no money to cover the costs of running servers and paying developers to upgrade the games.

Someone like yourself who wants to play AI players on your computer and have a leisurely round of golf will "IMO" always be a part of PG's installed game. After all, most of us want to be able to play in practice mode off-line as well. Having an AI player just like TW and Links is a necessity. So are driving ranges and practice greens...

Thanks for chiming in with that thought, it's a very important part of what "I" think this game should have as well.   :)

I can't speak for TW, gave up on that game back around TW07 or 08. But I can speak for Links and as an 11 year old game, it hasn't died and it doesn't require a server for a few people to hook up online and play a round.

I understand the need for a server for those who wish to play that way. All I'm saying is I don't want to start paying annual fees for something I'm not using.

Everyone will have their own ideas about the actual prices.

Using the Kickstarter pledges as a guide though, only 4 or 5 in total pledged more than $50. That makes me think that a large percentage of the people that want to play this game don't have the finances to pay large fees ($100 + the game cost is a sizeable fee for a lot of people). During the Kickstarter, the cost of a pledge to receive the game was only $25, I think.

Higher fees will just mean less players, and, IMO the more players, the more the likelihood for success. I suppose it will all just boil down to what PP's targets are. Personally, I would like to see online annual fees around the $50-$60 mark maximum, preferably much less, as I believe that would be much more within the range of a large percentage of people's budgets just to play a game. Providing the game plays as good as we all hope, and keeps improving, numbers of online players will increase, and given time, and if the product is good, large profits are bound to be made without forcing individuals to invest large amounts of money every year.

I'm probably in the $50 game / $20 online per annum ball park.

I'm not sure about CF and courses.....in links there was some EULA that meant you couldn't charge for real courses unless you got the consent of the golf club itself, hence virtually all real course renditions were free.

Course Forge - $30

Perfect Golf - $25

Annual Subscription - $25

Also, we should rename this thread "Hey, guys! Let's bash on WGT for having one of the most successful online golf business models of all time."

As a TWO member, I payed 12 cents a day for 27 months, during which I spent around 1 hour every day with the game. I posted as much in another thread. That is - or rather was - an incredibly cost-effictive way of playing computer golf, socialising with others and having both good fun and very tense competitions (yes, even though it was a buggy, glitchy game made by EA, worst company of the year 2011/12, warts and all...)

Considering what each of us spends for going out, eating in a restaurant, going to the cinema, driving your car, and everything else, 12 cents a day is not much at all. Even if doubled, tripled or quadrupled, as far as I'm concerned, pricing for PG+CF will not be an issue for me. It still will be an incredibly cheap, passionating and rewarding form of entertainment that will outperform, in its buck-per-time-ratio, most other alternatives. Before announcing your pricing preferences, gentlemen, do your math.

Your total money spent was initially a large investment that was diluted over time. EVERYTHING is cost-effective with that mindset, no matter if it's a $1 candy bar or a $500,000 car. I think all that matters right now, at least to PP, is that the money that is spent upfront by users of PP entices them to stay for as long as you stayed at TWO and actually make their investment worth the money and time that they spent.

Why do you think the Course Forge should cost more than the game?

There's several other golf games out there, but I've never seen anything as intriguing or functionally sound as Course Forge out there.

We can argue and speculate all we what about how much this that and the other will cost.

AJ has stated that they haven't even decided on a pricing structure yet. I'm sure when they do, they will share it.

Agreed Daz. Suggesting pricing models when we have no idea of the cost of producing and hosting the game is difficult. I am sure that when the time comes to start selling the game, we will know and until then it is all guesswork.

I'd of course buy the game and the course forge, I'd expect to be able to play IP to IP with friends. I wouldn't need the use of a server. I'd buy expansion packs but not balls, clubs, gear etc

Please keep the conversation on topic. We don't mind people expressing their own opinions on what they would like to see but please refrain from telling others what they can or cannot afford or criticising others points of view when expressing what they want. I will leave these posts for now but will go through this thread and delete anything that is not a contribution to the conversation if it continues

Leeray    Some of us are on a tight budget.

There are very few of us who are not on a tight budget. The $100.00 is a ball-park amount and it's just "my" concept. They may decide to have an online subscription at $40.00 a year or some other method of keeping the cash flow coming in to maintain their servers.

I just would rather pay more for an annual subscription and a solid price for the game rather than see PG get into all the mini-transactions that TWO and WGT were charging members to up-scale their golfers.

No elitist mind set here my friend, just want to pay for a couple of things and enjoy the upgrades and the great server connections 24/7 365.   ;)

Cost of game: $60.00

Cost to play online for one year $100.00
Choice to play online per month might be around $15.00

Multiply that $100.00 by over 10,000 online players (being modest) and that's a million a year.
Multiply upgrades to the game (licensed game owners) $40.00 by 10,000+ orginal buyers and
and you have $400,000.00+ a year.
Plus, add thousands of new players buying the game at full price over the first three years.
(lot's of income)

After the first year of word-of-mouth, possibly 50,000 paying members.
The second year, possibly 150,000 paying members.
The third year could easily be between 200,000 and 300,000 paying members.

All this conjecture is based on these FACTS. These guys ('PP Principles' are patient professionals).
They are are not greedy and they know that business takes "three years" to become a success. (It takes one year to fail.)

The game purchase and yearly subscription fees are easily affordable by every serious golf simulation player
who realizes this will be the Best-of-the-Best computer golf game ever created. This success will resonate
all over the Internet to every corner of the planet for sim-golf veterans and new comers alike.
My guess would be that PP makes $2,000,000.00+ a year from PerfectGolf (after the first year).

PLUS! Unbelievably fast and reliable support by PP and geek-heads who are part of the community.

I think at $100.00 a year is way high. I'm retired and I don't have that kind of money for a golf game. Look if they do it right people will come but don't make it so pricey that a lot of people wont be able to afford it.

PP may decide to have a $40.00 or less per year subscription - they may choose not
to have an annual subscription at all. We are all just adding our ideas to this topic.

In all earnestness, what do you feel would be a good price structure for this game?

In all honesty, my best bet is $30 as a one time fee to own a licensed copy of Course Forge and a $25 recurring yearly charge for Perfect Golf.
