Must be nice to have a track man setup though, never gonna happen for me, i would have to save hard for about 5 years and move into a bigger house, i'll just have to keep braving the elements in the real world.

This technology is the future though..I can see in about 15-20 years maybe this is the normal way of playing golf instead of going to the course and paying a green fee..u can play with your friends on any number of courses .i dont know if I want to be right or wrong on this..

15-20 years from now courses will be charging $150 for 18 instead of the $60, 15-20 years from now this $18,000 trackman setup will cost $40,000, 15-20 years from now I hope I can still swing a club!!!

You can't have a simulator if you don't have 10 foot ceilings which most people don't but if you got some extra money you could probably build a small addition to your house or garage with higher ceilings. Even in the house though there is no way I'm going to swing a club when it's lightning outside..............

The future is here now.  Many on OGT sim tour prefer to play a round of golf on sim in 50-90mins vs 5 hours outside and getting stuck behind slow people.  They love how jnpg allows them to play with people from all over the world in real time.  Btw, not everybody is using a $20k Trackman system.   The cheapest launch monitor starts at around $2000.

10 ft ceilings is required if you plan to invite friends over.  some can get by with 8.5 ft.  all depends on your height and swing plane.

Hard to say what the price will be that far away..look at flat screen TVs.the 1st one I saw was in Best Buy long time ago.they wanted $10,000 for it.u can get one now wayyyyyy cheaper now..I’m assuming if it catches on it may fall but if it stays small like it is now i doubt it will come down..pretty much with everything, more of something less it is..

It’s also very possible that VR interaction and peripherals continue to get much much better and that experience appeals more to mainstream people more so than anything with actual golf equipment.

In fact, the indoor use of normal golf equipment that would traditionally be used outdoors could seem pretty antiquated over time.

It might become the vinyl of virtual golf.

Some will still be doing it, but we won’t be sure why, and they will likely profess readily disprovable “benefits”.

LOL

Yeah, this should pretty much show everyone where the Jones brothers efforts and time are being spent. You have to be nuts to think that PG2 will be released for pc or console.

The driving range is pretty cool though... looks like multi-player simulation driving range!

Well....At least we are all moving totally into the acceptance phase here.

She has moved on and is no longer just dating other people - she has full on married someone else.

Hey, at least we got to keep the old house — for now

They could only realistically play one course a day too.
It had to be located nearby also..

That and you had to drag along this big bag of heavy clubs… All different…

Very old-school - like when everybody still had their own car with a continual gasoline explosion going on underneath the hood

Super frustrating and vintage.

There are plenty of places that already exist for indoor golf. There are 5 places where I live within an hour that have full bar, food  and access to anywhere between 10 and 35 separate golf bays. All of which you can play a variety of real world course . The few I have been to charge for the round, and limit you to 4 hours. This particular place also has leagues.. I personally feel It will never replace real golf fully because of the putting and ball lie reasons.

Yes, but, if you grow up and play indoor golf first, you don't know any better and won't care. Real golf is a different thing all together.

The danger is courses not having the funds to stay alive with their antiquated system of real grass requiring maintenance. The land will be much better suited for 3500+ sqft homes with indoor golf rooms.

There are movable floor systems that will deal with stance and simulated lies can happen. Although, the average indoor golfer will not care about those things. That can be reserved for the esport athletes that are getting paid for those inconveniences.

I'm with DP

I suspect the future of "golf" may look pretty different than its current form.

Along with a focus on indoor first/only, I could see different equipment that's built for that purpose straight away.
There's a whole of interesting possibility if approached from that angle first/only.

There’s quite a few scenarios I would probably try out in a holodeck

Like hitting on scantily clad beer cart girls while golfing in the holodeck?

I've mentioned in a other spots but in Columbus, Ohio, there is a guy running a members only club (7500 sqft space) that has 4 Trackman sim bays and other man cave amenities. It is mainly guys from his country club at the moment.

But, drinking, gambling, watching sporting events, playing sim golf... Um, I think there's a market there...

Starts to sound better than weather dependent 5 hour round behind Mr and Mrs Esterhouse...

As long as the air is breathable and the grass keeps growing I prefer my golf to be played outside. Indoor golf is great for training and working on things. If weather permits i'd prefer to be outside. but hey if you'd prefer to be with a hologram than a real woman thats your prerogative.

Not sure anyone said they necessarily "prefer" indoor or virtual pursuits (at least not yet), but rather that a real market may end up taking over there due to the flexibility, versatility, and so on.
