The ultimate mouse swing would of course be if the golfer animation somehow indicated whether your backswing was going straight back, to the "right" (often forcing a fade or slide from an outside-in swing) or to the "left" (could force a draw or hook) but thats probably close to impossible to do the right way anytime soon.

But Buck has a point...the RTS as it is Mikes video right now..is pretty much the mouse swing with a centered cursor you have to focus on. My opinion is still that a real time swing which synchronizes with the mouse...should be real time all the way, otherwise it just looks....off.

It would be possible if the club would have a trail. If you pull it back and it stays, say, green, you are on a perfect swing plane. If you are outside in it could turn blue and red if you are inside out.

Totally agree with the three posts above.  I ALWAYS watch the golfer in a RTS stroke. That is , I believe , how it should be. Watching a cursor in a "RTS" swing for me is totally anti immersive. And with no real RTS control over the downswing, can this be called a true RTS shot ? Links 2003 !!    I was hoping that 13 years later there would be something significantly better with a true RTS swing. Now I'm not so sure but of course I will give it a fair trial when it appears.

I must agree with you Parkle. As a long time RTS player in Links I can not imagine watching a cursor as being 'realistic' or 'increasing immersion' at all. The very reason to have a Real Time Swing is for the player to FEEL ONE with the animation! Otherwise it's just one more version of the click swings. The only reason for me to have bought Links in the first place was the RTS. Click swing abound in all the games, and, for those who like that, no problem ofcourse. To each his own.

But the group of players who cluster around RTS want nothing more but also nothing less then a real interactive experience with the animation. That's the point of using that swing! The Links experience was a great step forward, and the RTS, albeight not as optimized as the PG-RTS is becoming, was a very good interactive smooth playing tool. It did a lot things very good and the player only had his visual 'engagement point' with the Ani as to how far his backswing must be for a particular shot. After playing that game for so long I can attest to it's strenght.

PG-RTS goes a step beyond with ratio and plane kicking in, so it must be more difficult/challenging to master. (Ever the more reason for having some post shot feed-back info on screen, as more things can go wrong then in Links-RTS.) But I strongly feel the bottom line must be, that the PG-RTS offer at the very least, the same interactive feel as it's 'predecessor' (although I realise that the dev's at PG don't want to see their RTS being labelled that way).

True - there are a couple of ways to indicate the swingplane. And there must be some way to simulate draws/fades etc. too based on the downswing accuracy. I remember in Links 2003, with the real time swing, i could make those fades or draws by feel - by adjusting both backswing and downswing path - it was a great experience. Sometimes it went totally wrong too and i topped the ball. :)

Some thoughts on what I'd need to see/experience in a PG-RTS stroke before I reinstall PG.

Whether you look at the ani, pointer or the mouse itself, one thing is fundamental to this new stroke for PG.  For me this new swing must have fluidity, feel, direct correspondence, ani-linkage or call it what you will.  For all the negative comments about Links RTS and its shortcomings it remains supreme in having this fluidity to it.  You move the mouse and there is a 1-2-1 direct corresponding movement in the animation with absolutely no lag!  Just to compare the opposition (TGC), its RTS stoke does not quite have this fluidity to the stoke and particularly so in putting.  Possibly why that game is also currently uninstalled - I just feel unconnected when I play that game even though the graphics are very decent IMO.

I'm not after a direct port of the Links-RTS mode to PG because some aspects of it remain way too easy (playing bunker shots for one) but I'd sure like the PG coders to fire up Links 2013 to get a feel for its fluid RTS stoke and at least try to 'port' aspect of this to PG.

Re the slight pause at the backswing in MJ's video, the only time I'd like to see that happen is if I was to stop the mouse moving when the club reaches the top of the backswing.

Looking forward to seeing what comes out when I shall be in a position to judge for myself.

It would suit me if there was no ani at all. Line up the shot then just look down at the ball and whack. Seriously, wasn't this how it worked with TW on the Wii? (If you selected that view option).
