...over at TGC

Too many get sucked in by eye candy without ever really examining the course as a layout

Agree.

Many of the "here's my new course" threads are just screenshot porn basically...

The conditions (hard coded to each course release) are also a major part of the issue - Usually way too fast and firm

Swinging back to the original post...

I'd bet heavily against a lobby ever coming to TGC.

Anthony claims nobody really wants it and it's too complex for the benefit of the few that do want it.

We should be very thankful that PG has, correctly in my mind, implemented a lobby.

To me it's the only way to go for online play.

Out of curiosity, I bought TGC a few months ago.  I read a few posts over at their forum, but my interest has died in it.  While my interest has waned a bit with PG (largely due to work issues), I'm still interested despite not having played much in the past month or more.  I struggled with TGC because shortly after I started playing, I couldn't figure out why none of my shots were going the anticipated distance - and then I stumbled on to the lofting up and down with shots.  I never used (nor knew about) that feature of the game until my shots ended up much shorter.  I then realized that all shots started with full loft.  That was a nuisance to change each and every shot, but at least I came to understand the "dial-a-distance" reference!

I also found it quite difficult to find decent courses.  I think I played one, maybe two, of Lez's designs, but I think that was about it.  I'm not sure if I'll play it much more, but I'm curious what courses Dogz and Wendy have designed!  Maybe my 13 hours in the game will extend to 15.  :D

I did see some posts/discussion in the forums about TGC2, but you all have captured it much better than I could have.  I don't necessarily disagree with Anthony's desire not to have levels, but I didn't find much challenge in hitting FIRs (or very close).  The swing needs added difficulty, and then the perceived goal of having the better players shoot better scores could become reality.  But I think that would make the "duffers" of the game just that. It would be so difficult, they would just lose interest.  And PG would be exactly that if there was only one level (Tour Pro).  It would far too difficult for players to start with, the vast majority would be gone.  I'm not sure what else they could include in TGC2 that would elevate my interest in their game - except maybe far fewer courses to wade through!

I agree on your last statement.  If they don't add difficulty levels and they continue to fear alienating the current user base (which is a legitimate concern) then I'm afraid I'll never find much satisfaction from the game.    It's not even so much that it's SUPER easy or anything.  It's just that each round and each shot feels the same.  If I play the same course back to back it feels like a carbon copy.

But I'll wait and see what they come up with.  I'd love to be proven wrong.

That carbon copy feel you speak of will always haunt TGC, even TGC 2 if it happens....its fair to say i'm finished with the game.
