Will Steam be the only way to buy the early release?

I didn't want to have to join Steam but I will if it is the only way to get the game.

I was in the same boat I never used a controller but like you I got used to it. But I am a 3 clicker by heart and will go back to it. I am so glad that PP has included it in the game.

Are there issues with Steam? The only negative I've really heard in the few months I've been on it is that they only accept credit card payment and many people around the world can't get credit cards.

I am just a little weary of playing through a third party after using Origin for TWO.  I never felt that secure using Origin.  I know nothing about Steam and would be happy not to need to learn anything.

Steam is a very easy to handle Plattform. You can save alot of Space and about the Security there's nothing negative to say about. I use Steam now since more then 5-6 Years and i like it because you didn't waste your Space on the Harddisc because all Games you didn't like to play yet you can save on Steam only.

That's about the only thing I did like about TWO, you joined the game right from their website, not sure how this steam thing works.

My limited understanding of Steam is that it is more of a content delivery system - a place where you can purchase & download games. You don't actually play "on" or "through" Steam. But, I could be wrong.

Very interesting update and nice to read, that something is going on this year. IMO Steam is a very good and "easy to handle" platform to d/l and play games, online and offline.

Personally, using the first perspective view (ie without any animation) is a great addition to the game. Granted, some swings will become introduced later, once the animation is included. However, I honestly feel having this view of the course, is a great way of playing PG.

If you get the gamepad sussed out there will be those who are currently playing TGC, and like the gamepad controller, who would become potential customers. :)

...me being one of "them".  ;)  :)

I have been using steam for 10 plus years with no problems. They also accept PayPal in lieu of credit cards. They offer many features as well for those that choose to use them. They also have a "Steam guard" feature for enhanced security; I have never been compromised with this service and highly recommend it. IMO, PP did a good thing hooking up with Steam...

Edited "steam guard"

Looking deeper after you mentioned Steam supports PayPal, it's monthly subscriptions apparently that Steam doesn't handle with PayPal. Thanks for correcting.

Thanks everyone for your reassurance about Steam.  I feel a lot better now.  I'll be 68 years old in February and I it is getting harder for me to adjust to new things.  I will give Steam a try.

I'm but a few years behind you Ron-Find the steam discussions tab and look at the help/tips section for a start with steam. Heck peruse the games section for any interest you may have and you might find a great deal on something you never knew you wanted!

Heh-

Steam is safe

I would definitely by down for gamepad/thumbstick swing support.  I think TGC does a tremendous job with it using my XBox 360 wireless controller.  I could survive with mouse swing until it gets here, but thumbstick swing would be my go to control method if it was implemented properly in Perfect Golf.

Concerning mouse swing, I am worried that without an golfer animation you won't be able to know when to stop your back swing and start the downswing.  Will you be providing any way to tell when you are at the top of your swing?  Would it be possible to add an aid in the beta version even if it isn't included in the final version because we will have a golfer animation at that time?

This may be a mute point because I have no idea what the first person perspective looks like.  It may include a way to tell when you are at the top of your back swing.

I just want to point out a point of concern for mouse swingers.

There will be an animation, but MJ has hinted it might not make the first Early Access release.

Don't forget, the Early Access release will more than likely still be an ALPHA state version, so there will be many more things to be added along the way. Please don't look at the Early Access as the finished article.

I agree totally that trying to play mouse swing in first person would be tricky, but the plan by PP is to eventually tie the mouse swing in to the movements of the animation, so instead of relying an a meter or gauge, you can make your swing by watching the animation follow your mouse movements, effectively a real time mouse swing. I'm sure they'll crack it, as TW and Links both had the same sort of swing on offer (and how old are those games, lol).

;)
