We're talking about cross platform play right?

Thanks for those links Crow; they got me on a new research path.  I think we're groping for the term that describes the method by which XBox One and Windows 10 PC cross-play will occur.  How does the term Play Anywhere strike you?  This link makes the claim that ReCore is the first game to be characterized as a "Play Anywhere" game.  It can be purchased on XBox Live for the XBox One and in the Microsoft Store as digital downloads.

After reading the articles in those links it says that the game developers have to build "cross-platform" play in to the game. Have PP committed to doing this for the Windows10 & Xbox One versions of JNPG?

As for cross-platform gaming with PS4...I have my doubts.

*Sighs*

If PP goes to Windows Live online play will be dead in the water.  They have the worst servers imaginable and they do not restart them regularly nor maintain them.  I wait with baited breath on this one.   :(

I would like to get a definitive answer on that myself!

As for PS4 cross-play compatibility for JNPG, does Rocket League not allow XBox One and PS4 players to compete against one another?  I know the PS4 version has cross-play with the PC and the XBox One version has cross-play with the PC, but I've never read anything that confirms XB1 and PS4 players are actually competing against one another at any point in time.

I can't speak for Windows Live online play, but I can say that XBox Live is almost impeccable!  Surely the same people that are responsible for that caliber of support on the XBox One are capable of delivering a similar experience on Windows 10 PC's, which I get the impression are more or less integrated into XBox Live for Cross-Play and Play Anywhere gaming.

Whew...  with this news, we can call off the suicide watch we had in effect for some folks here.  I think Andrew's comment about the difference between Windows Live and XBox Live should tip us off as to which direction they're taking there ;)

Xbox Live and Windows Live are two completely different things

They sure are... when you Google "Windows Live", it's spoken of as a discontinued (as in August 2012) brand, and discussed in the past tense.  XBox Live seems to be absorbing the Windows 10 game traffic for games that are designed to work with it.  When I play Forza Apex on Windows 10, it takes me to the XBox Live Forza Hub, when I select certain play or content options, although I can't race head-to-head against Forza 6 players on XBox Ones... yet.

I can't see any other way to do it, other than Microsoft's Play Anywhwere, cross-platform game, ala ReCore, Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3...

Exactly. However, it's up to the developers to include it in the game and so far, PP have not officially announced that it (cross-platform multiplayer) will be included in the Windows 10 & Xbox One versions of JNPG.

They haven't announced it in concrete terms, but a while back, Andrew Jones said that the XBox One and Windows 10 versions would be integrated in the same online world:

http://www.perfectpa...live#entry94090

The only way I can see that they could do that now is via what Microsoft calls Play Anywhere.  I'd love for someone to come along and educate me more about this.

Microsoft PlayAnywhere is a concept where if you purchase the game on PC you get a free version of the Xbox Game and Vice Versa.  Not sure it really has anything to do with Multiplayer.  You can make a windows 10 game with the Xbox Live SDK so that the PC Game can play multiplayer against the consoles.  But playanywhere allows you to store game progress across the plaforms.

At this point we are debating the benefits of play anywhere, the major downside is that it is the same game, so all you mouse click players can say goodbye to mouse swings with a play anywhere version of the game.

So as with anything there are plus and minus with the decision.  If its not play anywhere then you will have to purchase separately game and all content.

So it boils down to this.  Do we think people will really want to be able to play the game on both PC and Xbox, how many will this be and will the lost functionality resulting from the same app for both be worth it.

At least at this time thats how I understand it....

@Andrew:

If I can just chime in with one aspect that I think is really critical for PG long term...

Multiplayer.

Whatever path gets the most people playing together online on the same system would be the one I would pursue personally.

Andrew, if the decision is made to eliminate the PC and 3C game version, you can kiss me goodbye. As I've said many times, I'm not a gamer, (no console for me). I just want a good GOLF PC game, with an excellent career mode and new courses. Golf is the only game I play. I can always resurrect Links 2003 but I'd really like something new and fresh.
