Microsoft PlayAnywhere is a concept where if you purchase the game on PC you get a free version of the Xbox Game and Vice Versa. Not sure it really has anything to do with Multiplayer. You can make a windows 10 game with the Xbox Live SDK so that the PC Game can play multiplayer against the consoles. But playanywhere allows you to store game progress across the plaforms.
At this point we are debating the benefits of play anywhere, the major downside is that it is the same game, so all you mouse click players can say goodbye to mouse swings with a play anywhere version of the game.
So as with anything there are plus and minus with the decision. If its not play anywhere then you will have to purchase separately game and all content.
So it boils down to this. Do we think people will really want to be able to play the game on both PC and Xbox, how many will this be and will the lost functionality resulting from the same app for both be worth it.
At least at this time thats how I understand it....
It's not clear to me how Microsoft is trying to present and market their Windows 10/XBox One cross-play functionality. Andrew, are you saying that a game would have to be developed with the XBox Live SDK in order for the game to be cross playable on Windows 10 PCs and XBox Ones? That being the case, would you then have to limit the interface functionality of the game to what the XBox One supports?
I think cross-play between XBox One and PC players would be an asset to the game, but if it comes that the cost of 3-click mouse interface on the PC, there would be a run on tar and feathers, I'm afraid.

Imo:
1: one lobby with cross play between pc and xbox is a must.
2: you definitely should not drop 3 click or any mouse swings, so playanywhere is a no go. i suspect there will be a price for this milestone upgrade/new version. So people will have to choose if they want pc or xbox Or both.

^^This^^
We gotta' have as many people playing online together as possible, especially given the more niche appeal of PG vs other more arcade-like golf offerings in the marketplace.

Also, for Windows 10 version, it should allow you to install on all your windows 10 pcs with only a one time purchase. I can do this now with Forza Apex. You obviously shouldnt be able play on multiple pcs at the same time.

I don't see the PC version of the game going anywhere. They're developing a Win 10 & DX11 version of the game to run on XBOX LIVE. Also drop the PC and you can say goodbye to Unity and CF I would think.
I think the main decision is what devices would still be compatible with the game, if Play Anywhere is opted for.
Surely it shouldn't see the end of 3C, as you can play 3C using a controller. The downside would be any PC 3C players would then need purchase or use an existing compatible controller in place of the mouse. The swings that would seem to be at risk with Play Anywhere would be MS and RTS-M which would be a crying shame if these were dropped IMO.
Still, it's not my project, not my game. I am just Billy Punter, an end user.

1.) Totally agree
2.) By no means should 3-click mouse and analog mouse swings be taken out for the sake of cross play abilty. I don't understand Microsoft's mechanism for making cross play possible between PCs and XBox Ones, nor why it would prevent PCs from having some of their interface options available for use?

Should be noted that MS continues to insist that KB + Mouse support is indeed coming to the XBOX

That's even a problem for PG as it currently is using the controller....need the KB* to do any text chat
*unless you use one of those little thumb-boards I guess
Yuck..

Jcat,
Andrew stated cross play has nothing to do with playanywhere. They are just wondering if the benefit of one purchased to get both version is worth it. I dont think it is, imo. People should expect to pay extra for an xbox version. Perhaps the playanwhere required streamlining features/code, which could make it easier to maintain.
