I stand corrected!

Glad you like it.

I would like a normal KB option personally

Microsoft PlayAnywhere is a concept where if you purchase the game on PC you get a free version of the Xbox Game and Vice Versa.  Not sure it really has anything to do with Multiplayer.  You can make a windows 10 game with the Xbox Live SDK so that the PC Game can play multiplayer against the consoles.  But playanywhere allows you to store game progress across the plaforms.

At this point we are debating the benefits of play anywhere, the major downside is that it is the same game, so all you mouse click players can say goodbye to mouse swings with a play anywhere version of the game.

So as with anything there are plus and minus with the decision.  If its not play anywhere then you will have to purchase separately game and all content.

So it boils down to this.  Do we think people will really want to be able to play the game on both PC and Xbox, how many will this be and will the lost functionality resulting from the same app for both be worth it.

At least at this time thats how I understand it....

I would be one who would be willing to buy both versions so that I'd have the flexibility to play them both.  My XBox One travels a lot easier than my gaming PC :)   Let me see if I can peel this down to what I now see as a core question... if there was a Windows 10 PC version of the game AND a separately sold XBox One version, would it still be possible for them to support cross play where the PC players could use the swing interface of their choice and the XBox One players there's, via a lobby system?  I don't see where anyone could lose if this is possible.

Nobody should expect to pay once and get it on multiple platforms.

That sounds "cute" but I think it's mostly a desperation move from MS/XBOX who's getting killed by the PS4.

I'd prefer to pay the developers twice for 2 different versions so they can keep doing this!

I made no statements about where we are going just outlined the issues with these decisions that need to be made

Think of Xbox live as a replacement for steam the MS app store as a replacement for steam store

Play anywhere is a completely different beast

Our plan is to have a PC and Xbox version of the game that can play online together

We will continue to support steam osx and Linux

Jcat,

Andrew stated cross play has nothing to do with playanywhere.   They are just wondering if the benefit of one purchased to get both version is worth it.  I dont think it is, imo.  People should expect to pay extra for an xbox version.  Perhaps the playanwhere required streamlining features/code,  which could make it easier to maintain.

Okay, well that's what I was missing... thanks!  I read an article about cross-play right after ReLoad was released as a Play Anywhere title.  I somehow got from that it had to be a Play Anywhere title to support cross-play.  Come to think of it though, Rocket League is cross-playable and it's not a Play Anywhere title.

I think it's more than reasonable to expect to have to pay for a separate version of the game.  I'll gladly pay for the convenience and flexibility that would give me.

LOL... I figured that would draw you out :D   I'm a jack-leg fire fighter... I'm on the fire brigade at the power plant where I work.  I get to go into an IDLH atmosphere and put out fires wearing an SCBA once per year in our annual re-qual exercise.  That's as much as I need to see to let me know I wouldn't want to do it full time.  Firefighters have my utmost respect!

This should put a rest to any panic some folks might be having about the recent news of Microsoft XBOX Live and all other future plans anf them being left in the jet-wash.

Yes, but no 3D grass for them. And it'll be a fractured community if they don't upgrade.

Seems like it might be a benefit to have a less progressive version of the game as an option, thus staving off the complaints of being forced to upgrade to a "NASA PC"...

:D
