I find the whole "how engaging will it be" thing hard to gauge, especially with the NDA in place still.

Divot & JC are both speaking in a way that indicates there is a lot there, but the streams would certainly not lead one to think that.

I maintain that HB wants the game to have some aspects of being "Mario Kart: Golf", in that they don't want anyone getting too frustrated or performing too poorly, at least not up to the level of frustration you are able to achieve here in PG (which is superb IMO - this is golf - it should be challenging).

The refund policy in terms of how long you can play a game is a bit restrictive, so this one will be tough.  I need to hear a lot from the testers once the NDA lifts, as I'm not just rewarding HB with money this time around.  Three copies of useless TGC1 and a I've learned my lesson.

Both streams would certainly indicate exactly what you described. Makes you wonder why they even attempted to put difficulty levels in there.

It's odd that the stream doesn't reflect what JC and Divot have experienced. I trust their opinions so I'll be buying TGC2. If it sucks then it's only $40. Not the end of the world. I'm hoping that it at least holds my attention until PP releases a major update for JNPG.

Yeah for me it isn't even about the money… It's just on principle…
If they just added a whole bunch of society/social stuff and the gameplay is not markedly better I simply don't want to reward that.

I'm really irritated that they continue to have the NDA in place so close to release.
To me that feels more like they're hiding things than anything else.

Given how people on their own forum are somewhat lukewarm on some of what they are seeing, you would think they'd be more inclined to lift the NDA to assuage any fears.

That's a good point, Buck, about the NDA. Isn't it also kind of odd that the beta testers were released from duty so many weeks before release? Or did I miss an explanation for it somewhere? I'd think they'd want the testers to keep testing, to catch last-minute bugs.

I know what you mean about JC and Divot. They're both straight shooters. I now worry that HB has decided to dumb down the swing mechanics.

Looks like the online play is broke even before the game comes out

"Don't be surprised if things that worked in TGC1 don't work in TGC2 upon release,  in fact prepare for it.   Having said that,   I think they will fix it pretty quickly.   They had to put a halt to working on things to get it to pass submission.

Like I said,  I've tempered my expectation quite a bit,  and I'm hopeful others can follow suit and have faith."

that quote is from a beta tester.

Briefly saw the TGC2 E3 trailer and the guy couldn't have mentioned the word societies more if he had tried.

The courses in the trailer just seemed like TGC ports. Not really a way to show the new updated course designer in a good light.

Swing just looked like TGC with some form of tempo added.

Video did nothing to change my mind about the new game. Have fun those that get it.

Ya, the game looks like it sucks before it's even released. I'm canceling my pre-order. ;)

You a funny man.

I can only go on what I see, as not a tester, and after ditching TGC as I thought it was crap, I wont be buying TGC2.

With this in mind, my time is done in this thread.

Well as my earlier post says i have been reliably informed by a friend who played TGC to a high standard and is now testing TGC 2 that the game is def a step up ( not very surprising as TGC is crap ) but if i'm looking for the game to challenge me in the way PG does then its prob not for me.  The tempo will be mastered early doors by most players, just as i thought it would, and the short game is better but not really much more challenging than TGC.  Most over at HB forums are looking forward more to the designer rather than the game play anyway, and GNCD holds no appeal for me anymore, so with that i have zero interest in it.

I'm sorry mate but it has to be said the only reason you have a hate for TGC2 is because they upset you last year over not mentioning you in a course designer comp, so stop with the hate please and put your dummy back in.

I'm still deciding if I want to buy this game. I love the designer, but the gameplay would have to be much harder. I want breaking 60 to mean something. I hate tricked out courses and that's the only way to make TGC challenging.

Mebby is going to be my meter.  If he is still playing it after 2-3 weeks, I'll bite.

I won't get into this petty nonsense about the game stinks, this, that and the other thing... considering there really isn't much to choose from and if and when a decent golf game is released, golf game fans will embrace what is available or avoid it all together.  At the very least, I have to commend the effort from this developer for providing at "complete" golf game and continued support in making their game enjoyable for all types of players.. casual, serious, designers, die-hards...  you really can't fault them for that.

17 pages and 337 messages later, there is no consensus. That alone should be an indicator.

The consensus is that no one really knows for sure if the game is any good until it's released and people have had a chance to play it.

I own both JNPG and TGC, having purchased them last year to try them out before investing in the sim version of one of them to use with my SkyTrak launch monitor. After playing both games on my PC, I decided that JNPG had more realistic gameplay and higher quality courses so I now play only JNPG. I found very few courses in TGC that were of high enough quality or realistic length (with a lack of multiple tees) for a short-hitting senior like me. I also absolutely hate over-the-top, tricked up courses that are not like real golf, and TGC is loaded with poorly built courses like that. Some of the problems with TGC courses are also likely the result of the limitations in the course design software in TGC, so the upgraded course design software in TGC2 could make it more appealing for someone like me.

However, I now have developed a much more negative opinion of TGC as a result of being treated inappropriately by the administrators of a golf sim website that has a financial relationship with TGC. This is a website that provides a lot of useful info about SkyTrak and other launch monitors, but my attempts at posting questions or comments are now listed as "unapproved" by the admins. I have repeatedly sent personal emails to the admins to ask why my posts are being rejected, but they have never responded to my questions. I have never been disrespectful or inappropriate in any of my posts, but I have voiced my opinion that JNPG is a better choice than TGC for sim play on the SkyTrak. I can only assume that my opinions are not considered acceptable on a website that functions as a marketing tool for TGC.

For these reasons, TGC2 would have to be a dramatically better golf game than JNPG to tempt me at all to invest in TGC2.
