Thoughts on The Golf Club 2

I'm still having a lot of fun with the game. If you accept it for what it is (and it's easier for me to do that because I know that once JNPG2 comes out it will likely be more go-to for realistic golf) and just play it to have fun then it really is a pretty good and fun game.
They HAVE to fix that lighting though. It's horrible.

You actually liked it? I will but give me a bit of time as I think I need to add more tees and pins.
I and a number of others with whom I played all liked Autumn Ridge on TGC 1. Its release came at a time when HBS was still ironing out optimization issues, yet this course - as detailed as it was - ran smoother than all of the stock courses, It also had the most natural looking topography of any course at that time, and really, it withstood the test of time as I was still playing it a year later. It had some very difficult holes, but it also had some go-for-broke holes. I'd love to see what you could do with this in TGC 2!

Agreed, the lighting needs to serious adjusting. Joel Thompson (HBS) has weighed in on the forum and confirmed that they are working on it.

Yeah, the lighting is horrible. I couldn't even see the grid earlier today on one putt. I did have a good belly laugh the first time I saw a flop spin back. Are fast greens like stump 16 or something? Feels like putting on glass.
I find the fast greens to be a bit too fast, especially with firm conditions. I played Crooked Stick last night, which has fast greens with firm surface conditions and the putting was overly difficult, IMO. I think "Medium-Fast" greens yield something more like what a championship course would offer.

By the way, is Crooked Stick labeled as such in the game or is it a different name?

I've ended up doing what I knew I would do..... uninstalled TGC2.
I'd like to say it was fun while it lasted, but it wasn't really, as I never felt in control of any swings I was making, even if they came off as (
Perfect (D) Perfect.
After 20 minutes on the range earlier, trying to figure out what the swing is actually doing so I can try and give myself a chance out on the course, I'm finding myself getting more and more frustrated and finding no enjoyment in the game.
Repeating the same swing on the controller, just the same pace back and the same pace through, just gives totally different outcomes every shot. The swings I'm making are nowhere near as different as the game seems to make out. There is no un-natural pause in the swing, just a back and forth motion at what I would deem a standard swing pace for a golf game. It must be me doing something wrong as other folks seem to be able to handle it, but while I'm keeping the swing plane inside the cone the shot readings are all over the place ending up with the ball having a mind of its own as the swing has been determined as B = Slow, D= Very Slow. Make the same pass with next swing B = Fast, D = Slow. Same again, B = Perfect , D = Very Slow. Then for laughs I added a brief pause between the backswing and downswing and got B = Slow, D = Perfect.
I'll leave it to everyone else to battle with and overcome. If I carry on the controller will be making contact with the bedroom wall at a high velocity.
Back to what I know (and enjoy) - Tour Pro 3C on JNPG.
Thankfully my next PS4 golf experience - Everybody's Golf - will be a 3C control method.

It does look better John in TGC2 but it could be my 4k monitor as well and having everything pretty much ULTRA and maxed out. I have about 4 holes done so far of adding new tees and pins but there is not much I can do with bunkering and such because when importing to TGC2 if you take out the bunkers it leaves impressions I can't seem to get rid of so I think I will just leave them and add a few if needed. There is a couple holes that came in bad to and one green is very slopey so I have to fix that. I pretty much played all monday night and some this weekend on turned based multiplayer and we had no hiccups at all because it worked great.
I know some are talking about the short game and yes I can agree but I always deloft a LW when chipping around the green so it runs more. Shouldn't have to do it but until there is a patch that they maybe fix some of this issues we have to deal with it. I believe that have it so you can loft or deloft way to much or it just has WAY to0 much impact. I was alpha/beta tester last year but not this year I guess. Yep MOST DEVS don't listen to you much after the first release, know that first hand from MANY, MANY games being a tester. These games though are not ours though but it's one way to turn off the crowd into buying your next game or can potentially backfire into people not buying your game because of word of mouth. Played a round on this course last night. Could not wait to finish it as the putting was very frustrating for me. Trying to get the right tempo on those fast greens plus the hole positions were more than enough for me.

I'm really curious to see how this turns out. You're going with the "Autumn" theme though, aren't you? I was worried you might jump ship for Harvest ![]()

I think your overthinking the tempo swing its easy to do if you remember tempo has nothing to do with it, it's all down to timing start to push forward as the animation gets to the top of his/her swing, if you are too early you will get a slow back swing too late a fast back swing, on the forward push just push it steady, hope that helps simples really.

J,
Appreciate the tips. Will take them onboard if the game ever gets installed again, as for now it is no longer on the console.

Well, I'm not very good at this game and I'm only on Player level. But I'm slowly, very slowly, seeing my game improve. So, it keeps me coming back for more. If we get a lighting fix sometime soon, I'll be grateful. It looks so bad at times I cringe. But if they can find the sweet spot for the lighting like they have for the water...well, they'd have something special.
They finally officially responded to my Lighting thread. Sounds like they are going to do their level best to address it. Hopefully they are successful.

There is hope, mebby!
Despite its flaws, TGC2 is still keeping me interested. Plus, it's nice to see the buzz around a new (updated) golf game.

To those that have signed up to the JNPG Gentlemans Club. I have started a 3rd 3 day event @ Caramel Creek. It's 100 coins to join with payouts at the end. It starts today and ends on the 8th which is this coming Saturday. Hopefully everyone shows and plays the event. Doing the short event to see how well it works for now. Also, We will be playing off the white tee's with no handicap. Good Luck.

Nope keeping everything the same, just adding tees and pins.

Hallelujah! I think the Autumn theme looks more natural than the Harvest theme, which is marred by some trees that just look surrealistic. I will see to it that my Digital Sportspage Society sponsors a tournament at Autumn Ridge, once you publish it!
