I guess everyone's view of which golf game feels more realistic is subjective.  I'm of the complete opposite opinion.  When I play JNPG I feel like I'm playing over the course where in TGC2 I feel like I'm playing on the course.  Both games look good in different ways (similar to water color vs oil paintings).

Yes - and you're not the first to have that observation. It's interesting how different people can look at the same thing and come away with two completely different perspectives. I don't feel like either game seems like you're playing over the course. There have been a few strange angles in TGC2 where it feels like the ball is hovering slightly above the surface though. I think it's a lighting thing.

The bunker lips in TGC (1 & 2) though are rough!! Talk about hovering!! LOL!

No matter which game you prefer, an objective person should at least be honest and say that there is way more variety in the looks and designs possible in PG.

That is simply irrefutable due to the non-use of themes + CF allowing essentially "anything" from a designers perspective.

As a lover of real course re-creations this is a definite knock against TGC for me.

Def Buck, CF is a complete joy... A lot of the fun is trawling thru various sites looking for a certain object to use, or creating a custom texture from a google earth image, it's total freedom.  I may dabble in a bit of TGC 2 gameplay now and then, but apart from importing a few older courses i will never use GNCD again, it's not in the same ball park as CF.

Without a doubt. As you said earlier - you can always tell a TGC course immediately when you see it. Never a doubt. Even though they all look different they all somehow look the same.

Am I right in thinking that the dirt lip in TGC2 bunkers is nothing more than an optical illusion?

I was aiming my shot from in a bunker yesterday and the lip appeared behave very oddly as I aimed left and right.

Whatever they've done or not done with the bunker lips really sucks…

I find it really disappointing that they did a new* version of the game and did nothing to address that.

As to the "realistic" look of the games....I've never stood on the tee of a golf course, looked down the fairway and thought "damn, it looks like The Golf Club".  On the other hand I have, on two different occasions, looked down a fairway and thought "damn, it looks like JNPG!".

Yep, I can always tell which course is from JNPG and which one is from TGC2.  Despite the limited assets (themes) for TGC2 some of the better course designers somehow manage to create distinctive looking courses.

JNPG definitely allows the user more freedom to create something unique, not relying on "stock" textures and objects.  But if you look at many of the PG courses, you do notice the similarities.  Same with TGC but even more so (since the designer is strictly limited to "stock").

I won't speak for Mebby, but I think you're agreement there is a slight misreading of what was being said.

The commentary was solely about TGC2 courses always being identifiable, not PG courses.

Do you feel that way?

You can always tell a PG course no matter what?

I definitely don't, or at least not in the same way that a TGC course has never been in question when viewing a pic - but maybe that's just me.

You are exactly right! If you ever roll one through the bunker you'll see that it goes through that lip as if it doesn't exist. Oh wait... it actually doesn't exist. It's a horrific optical illusion that I cannot believe survived from TGC1.

I wonder how difficult would it have been to allow the use of pot bunkers, yeltzman does a fine job with the links courses, but its a waste of time without pots, with pots and the elements, this is where links courses get their difficulty from, there are very few hazards otherwise...HB totally do not appreciate links golf and its finer points.

Or *any* of the relevant points around how match play works.

No man. You've got it all wrong. They just know how we want to pay multiplayer but we haven't caught up to their progressive thinking yet.

Apparently!

I need to get some lessons in whatever the new version of "Kyne-olgy" is over there post AK

One on One match play where we both play different modes...  Very creative concept!

Question: Sorry if this been mentioned before, but then I have missed it .... Are the TGC courses compatible with TGC2 courses ... if not the designers have to make them all over agian ...right ??? ... I was thinking of the classic IRL courses like Augusta ( .. Hello DogGz :) ... )

Ola,

I believe they can be ported over, not sure how, but I'm sure I've seen in a trailer video that it can be done using the course creator. TGC already has a version of Augusta. It's called Magnolia National or something like that.

I have just been watching 2 videos. One was Winged Foot West in TGC and the other Winged Foot West in JNPG. I appreciate for accuracy JNPG will win out because of LIDAR etc. but just comparing the courses on looks alone I know which one I prefer.
