Looks like a PS4 patch got pushed out yesterday (18Jul) and game now at v 1.02...

•         General optimizations to improve the load on the game servers.
•         Addressed the ability to import and save legacy courses from TGC1.
•         Memory improvements.
•         Addressed putting stutter some users were experiencing.
•         Society and Career stats updating with less delay from the server.
•         In-Game leaderboards updating with less delay from the server.
•         We have added the ability to donate to a society’s bank from your personal wallet.
•         We have added an active course filter to show all course with active rivals on them.
•         A setting has been added to turn off the ball label for ghosts and rivals.
•         Rebalanced AI for Career Mode.
•         Less time delay between turn based shots with rivals/friends.
•         Lighting adjustments

Feedback appears mixed. Some seeing slight improvements, some not seeing much of a change, others seeing swing becoming worse and loss of D-Pad movement in menus.

XBOX patch still awaiting the OK from Microsoft

Graphics are pretty good in PG i think, just look at that beautiful green texture, you won't see anything as authentic as that in TGC..

I see people over at TGC forum saying how bad the PG graphics are and I don't get it,yes some courses look very poor but some look stunning

Just played after installing patch on PS4.

Lighting appears slightly different. Can't say I'm seeing a drastic change though.

In tournament leaderboard updates are improved.

General gameplay is worse with more stuttering for me. Every new hole on tee stutters like mad. Ball in flight stuttering.

Hey-ho.

Gotta separate the fanboy opinions from real opinions. However, the short comings of graphics I'm JNPG mostly relate to the flat grass textures and the golfer animation. If those two things are properly addressed then I think JNPG will be head and shoulders above TGC graphically.

But that's my personal view. Some people will always prefer the perfect look of TGC over the realistic looks of JNPG

no not me, i designed TPC boston for TGC, i used massachecetts here as part reference, i never got close to it in terms of planting, so much grass at that venue and i made the mistake of trying to incorporate as much as possible into TGC version, but i ended up having to cull 2/3 of it,  GNCD just does not allow much vegetation at all.

I'll try but they don't like me any more than they like you over there.

Sounds like the PC patch took a week later to get to the ports, some issues with it but not to bad.

A conversion from your course in TGC1 to TGC2 takes 5 minutes if you do nothing to the course besides Republish it when importing. It's best though to add at least a couple more pins though on each green because porting over without doing anything is just laziness I think.

I have just been watching 2 videos. One was Winged Foot West in TGC and the other Winged Foot West in JNPG. I appreciate for accuracy JNPG will win out because of LIDAR etc. but just comparing the courses on looks alone I know which one I prefer.

Really?

Most seriously - do share the video - I'd honestly enjoy seeing it if you can find the link.

Some of the TGC2 courses really do look fantastic if the lighting doesn't ruin them. The latest patch helped significantly with the lighting but it still has a ways to go. Not sure if they plan on doing anything further though. I took the time to post a video (at Jim's request) to point out an issue I was having and there has been no response. I also pointed out that DOF is completely broken. No response. He's either busy (which is highly plausible and acceptable) or he knows the issues can't be fixed. Hopefully I get a response eventually.

JNPG coursers will always look more realistic to me even with the flat rough textures. But that doesn't mean that some of the TGC courses don't look fantastic.

That seems to be the difference usually…
I personally prefer things to look more realistic, when possible, given all options.

B,

Apologies, the course is from TGC, but doubt it would look much different in TGC2.

TGC - Winged Foot West

JNPG - Winged Foot West (played by ShankyGolf on sim)

For looks, it's JNPG all the way for me.

Me too (although I wish that video had the un-naturally deep blue sky mode off...)

I dunno, I think they both look pretty good in their own way.

This is my review of TGC2

Golf Club 1.5

This should have been a $20 DLC for the Golf Club because it's the same damn game with a few improvements.

The bunkers look absolutely horrendous. From the side you can see the textures floating over each other and the dirt lip texture was pulled directly from Minecraft.

The textures are way too perfect and resemble carpet. They also have a weird gleam to them.

The career mode was done half♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Only official courses work well as user courses the players score ludicrous numbers due to hndcp issues where they count rounds using red tees. You also can't see the whole leaderboard for a round until your next round.

The greens seem to have too little resistance. A ball will start rolling on very little downslope and seem to defy the very laws of physics. Also in my thirty+ years playing golf I have never seen putts break off the clubface on putts over 10'. The putt will always go straight off the clubface for the first part of the putt. In this game you have to account for break right off the clubface.

The ball flight. My god the ball flight is horrendous. The ball flight is way too low for the amount of spin that is apparently put on the ball.

You can also adjust the loft of a PW to hit it 200 yards. That's a joke.

The course designer and the new tempo system are the lone bright spots in this game. With that being said the designer only has a few new tricks and otherwise it is the same as it was.

Overall it plays a decent game of golf, but it doesn't offer enough over the golf club 1 to justify $40, especially considering the first one was only $30.

HB Studios is becoming EA.

Although the tone of this review feels like it's written with an agenda in mind... It's also difficult to disagree with most of what was said.

The only thing I don't agree with is the ball flight. It looks/feels ok to me.

Even with all these flaws I'm still miraculously enjoying it. Hard to explain but I think the tempo thing coupled with the swing plane sensitivity (on tour clubs) keeps it engaging for me somehow.

No agenda. I'm kind of in a rut with JNPG and bought it hoping to have a game to play until JNPG2. It's just not any better than TGC 1. The tempo is good and the cone is much harder to nail with a 360 controller. If they had a rating system I'd probably rate it between 6 and 7 out of 10.

HB Studios is becoming EA.

It really did feel like an EA type of game/release situation this time around when working with Maximum.

The TGC 1.5 release lost all the charm and communication that the original TGC development process had.

This feels particularly true with the hindsight of their silence leading up to release about so many things that they knew were in the game but would likely piss people off (like the MP situation).

Speaking of "acting like EA"..

Didn't HB actually work with EA many years ago on one (or perhaps more) of the Tiger games?
