I still play TGC 2 almost every day. As a die hard real time controller swing player, I find the fluid, mo-capped golfer animations of TGC 2 integrate with the thumbstick motion quite holistically. The added dimension of swing tempo, as simplistic as it sounds and is, provides just enough of an extra sensory challenge that it keeps the interface from feeling one-dimensional. I miss targets probably four or five times per round, on average, because I've mismanaged the tempo.
The multiplayer is horrible to say the least, even the stroke play, which supposedly is taking place in real time... it's more often not. I've totally given up on it in the multiplayer department. I like its Society tournaments, even though they don't play out in a manner that maintains the full suspense of a live round. For example, if you choose a ghost player to play a tournament round with, the leaderboard will still show that player's score on whatever hole it has staggered their round to be in the tee time order based on other players, not the hole with which they are playing with you. It kills all the suspense of a competitive round to know where your "live" opponent is going to stand up to 11 holes from where they're playing the hole with you.
I understand why there's so much hate for TGC 2 here, because many of the things you guys are pointing out as flaws with the annoy me as well. What I can't deny is that the properties I described earlier about its swing interface and integration of the mo-capped animations is what makes it my game of choice.
