Tree planting looks ok, but I hate seeing long grasses planted on a cut grass texture. It looks really unnatural to me because it is an impossibility. Dry, brown grasses planted on lush green, just exaggerate the issue. Quite a few designers have done this on JNPG courses.

Acrilix,
I agree with your assessment. I will say it is a tough thing to manage with the available textures. For me, I have found that "Ground7", "GroundMJ1" and "Earth" are dirt/grass combo textures that allow the grasses to still standout.
I think it is an issue of needing a bit of contrast. So, most designers will place a lighter grass on a dark texture, or vice versa. Otherwise, the grasses can somewhat be lost in the 3D world.
What I like to do is paint the textures around and then place grasses on them that go with the texture. Essentially, you can assess that only a few grasses can go on a certain texture. I also tweak in photoshop the contrast and hues to get a close proximity of grass and texture. Maintaining a bit of contrast allows the grass to stand out.
Whether Axe360 can "see" these differences, due to his color blindness, I don't know. He should be able to see contrast (light and dark). But, I can tell him which grasses probably look decent on which textures as well.

I always found the secret to grass planting on Links 2003 was in the blending of different grasses over the texture. It was almost impossible to get a realistic effect using just one grass. I usually used 2 or 3 grasses, varying the colour, tone, and heights of each. Once you had the correct proportions of these, the 'formula' was noted down and planting was fairly easy, but I used to spend ages in the early days experimenting with different combinations to get something that worked well. Tweaking colours in Photoshop was imperative too, as the smallest changes could have a significant effect on the result.

Coming along very well Axe, getting better as time goes by
My tip on grass is same as Matt`s, I also like to add a few more grasses and change the sizes, that way i have several different heights of grass that i can plant to make it look more natural and blend in better .
Well done so far

Larry, excellent.
I saw some of the TGC2 videos and personally thought that the graphics were terrible.
The JNPG course designers are doing and have done a tremendous job.
The TGC2 avatar, although customizable, IMHO is worse than our arthritic one. Hate to say it, but that gal was 'butt ugly'. I've also thought that the Rory avatar was wanting. While not a gamer, I've seen other video games with avatars, not impressed. Maybe the human look technology is quite there yet. I really don't know. It's beyond my pay grade.
I'll stick around here at PP waiting for JNPG2 whenever it happens. I'm a 3C player so TGC1 and 2 are both are a 'no go' for me.
Keep it up, my friend!!
