JCat i just read your article on  the Golf Club official forum, now looking for that official forum. can't find it in TGC, so where is it?? thanks.

Here's a link to the thread discussing the censoring and content removal: http://www.hb-studio...ic,29023.0.html

Is that what you were looking for?

BTW, can anyone who is not a member of HB Studios The Golf Club forum confirm for me that the above link takes them to the page, and that they can view the content there?

And Kenneth, what do you see now when you try to follow the link I provided above?  Please tell me you're not seeing a status of "banned"...

Here’s what I get:

“Sorry Guest, you are banned from using this forum!
Forum rules violation.
This ban is not set to expire.”

Lol

Apparently so thin skinned that even an unwanted “guest” isn’t allowed to merely browse the discussions.

It’s trivially easy to circumvent so it’s more just a game of childish whack a mole.

And you had been accessing the site, as a guest, for months prior to this morning, when you got this message?  Still very curious to see what Kenneth was getting when he tried to access it.

Chew on this a minute folks... we've now learned that a pretty dang good RCR of Royal Melbourne has been totally removed from TGG 2019's library.  Coincidentally, the 2019 President's Cup is being played in December at..... drum roll please - Royal Melbourne!   Is it possible that a new edition of The Golf Club is coming out in the next three months, or maybe right before The President's Cup, featuring a licensed version of Royal Melbourne, and perhaps... just perhaps, an officially licensed version of Augusta National?  It would certainly explain HBS' behavior over the events of the last two days!

That's grasping at straws I think.   It's unethical to remove a community course for that reason.

I think it's unethical to remove it from the 2019 edition, as they've already done if it's in anticipation of a licensed version of it being in their next game.  I could maybe see blocking it from being published as "Royal Melbourne" in what might be called TGC 2020: President's Cup Edition.  These (Royal Melbourne and Augusta National) are the only two times in the history of all three versions of TGC that I can recall a user made RCR being completely pulled from the game.

Wait a min.   The usage of LIDAR was never officially support, correct?   That might give them the right to remove those courses?

Neither Augusta National '19 Pins, Magnolia National (Tour), nor Royal Melbourne were created using LiDAR.  They were "stick built" from the game's course architect.

I'd still like to know if you can view the forum as a guest?  Buck was banned from the site over a year ago, but he was able to view the site as a guest since.... well, until this morning.  Would you mine trying to view it just to see if you get the "banned" as a guest message?  You'd have to do something to turn your login cookie off, but I don't know the best/easiest way to do that.

I very much doubt that a licensed version of Augusta will ever be released for any computer golf game.  It wasn't for  EA Tiger Woods or Rory McIroy and I'm sure they sold a lot more copies than TGC.  Augusta National doesn't need the exposure as it is arguably already the most famous course in the world and the club makes a ton of money from the Masters.

There were versions of Augusta rendered by Ken McHale for PGA 2000 and Tiger Woods and you can still download them.

Yeah, and I remember being totally floored when the announcement was made that it was going to be included in Tiger Woods 12.  They did a pretty decent job with it if I must say!

I see the locals quickly turned:

“no news and no HB comments and course censorship” into ...

“NEW GAME IS COMING...We love you HB! Rock on! Best game ever!”

lol

Reebdoog just found further evidence that a TGC title with "2020" in the name is coming.  HB Studios has bought and registered "thegolfclub2020.com" as a domain name, according to this:
