I thought i'd have a go at Glen Eagles , well what ever made that designer put them tall mounds in front of the tees, what a waste.

I haven't tried it myself... what's its rating? I have to be led by the collar to a new course to try. I'm already so strapped by playing Societies (I'm in four different ones) that by the time I play all the rounds and courses required by the Society obligation, I have little spare time for discovering new courses. I'm going to have to quit at least one Society to make some time.

You only need to go to the 1st Tee to see what i mean.

Dude was fricken drunk as hell when he did that, such a piss poor designer decision.

I'll definitely have to make this a stop, just to see it for myself. I bet the course doesn't have enough plays for a rating yet, if it's as bad as you suggest and SmokinJo backs up.

Okay, I typed in "Glen Eagles" in the search window and came up with one of the most hideous monstrosities I've ever laid eyes on. I played three holes just to see if it was an irregularity on the first tee... it wasn't. Why anyone would publish something like this is beyond my comprehension!? I then wondered if there was a naming issue with it, since the famous course is called "Gleneagles". It produced a result that looked like someone did a very hilly autogen, didn't plant any trees on it, and called it Gleneagles. It wasn't as bizarre as the otherworldly spires that are in front of the tees at the one you found.
I then found a course under "Glenn Eagles" that looked a little bit closer to Gleneagles, but it still had an 'autogen' nature at its base. Again, I wouldn't be able to tell you I was playing Gleneagles from playing it. Glenagles needs a competent, proven RCR to render it in the fidelity it deserves.

Strange choice of words. Shouldn't he have said, "future of The Golf Club"?

Yep.
I think JC will chime in at some point to clarify some examples from the past, but if memory serves, there have been numerous times where the references to TGC, "the future", etc by HB staff have all been in a manner that feels curiously "detached".
It has sounded at times more like they are speaking about the past and TGC in a way that indicates "it is what it is" for the foreseeable future (if not longer).

Just re-reading that post from above and seeing the latest comments..
It really does feel like TGC is dead.
That entire post is basically in the past tense.

I honestly don't know what to make of it. HB Studios public relations made an abrupt, about-face in August of 2018. It almost seems like they are playing mind games with the community now. They'll occasionally ask questions about what people say they want in a golf game every now and then, but they'll never respond with anything that would affirm they are working on another golf game. I've given up trying to figure them out.
I'm thinking we might get something from them with more meat on its bones after NBA Live 20 is released. I read that they were brought in for development help on it and I get the feeling that they are all in on helping EA Sports meet their publishing deadline for that title. That committment is probably a higher stakes game for them right now, in terms of $$, than a future edition of TGC. If we don't hear anything from them concerning a future edition of TGC, within a couple of months after NBA Live 20 is released, I'd say the chances are slim we'll see another TGC.

Agree JC
The posts have become so "past tense" in tone, that either "it's over" or it is so far off in the future and unknown and it explains the tone.
HB reps talking about "the future of golf" now just don't sound like there is some grand masterplan being covertly invested in.
After all - this a golf game. A niche within a niche. Being hyper secretive about it really makes very little sense. There's no competition and really nobody to hide anything from.

This is starting to remind me of some type of skit where the title would be "PR Speak Gobbly Gook" to just keep moving the goal posts around.

"Cephyn" seems to be on the right path I think.
I mean, just listen to what (Shaun) is saying.
Forum users are a significant minority.
They want to grow the game into the casual player market.
They feel the player base is generally satisfied based on play data, and still active.
There's no new game coming anytime soon. There's no need to fix anything in this game.
Pretty black and white.

If HB has nothing further to say by March, 2020 then I think we can safely call that game dead.
I agree.
