First to those who though I was a little harsh with my comments let me apologize for that as I should not have been as harsh as I was. Some of the last few posts in this thread have been very constructive and let me also say that yes at the present time Rory EA looks a tad bit better but I do believe that PG is not far from it and a lot of what is holding it back is trying to keep the low end machine in the game. We need the whole community both high end and low end for this game to succeed the way we all want it to. My issue with EA games has always been that they are way to easy and for the TGC I don't know what to say about that mess. There is no doubt I believe in any of our minds that the gameplay of PG is as good as we have seen and can only get better and I still contend if I only had these ten courses and nothing else I would just play these ten but I cant wait to have a 100 course to play. By the way Daz I love that pic of Augusta now if I could only play it life would be real good.

And I want to say the pausing of the rendering when making shot is a WONDERFUL addition for a low end machine like mine.
Thanks so much to the devs.

Yes, it's safe to say that the addition of pause rendering has made the game playable for a much larger crowd. Care to share what type of frame increase you're seeing on your system with it turned on? ![]()

I never understand when people say that the graphics of this game are being held back because they want to be sure that those in the community with lower end machines can still play it. Isn't this why we have the ability to control the graphics intensity in multiple ways via the graphics settings?? I mean - you can turn the game down so low that it looks like water color painting if you want.
Don't hold back - give us the ability to use the highest possible settings that the game is capable of. And I THINK that they actually are which is why I don't understand when people say that this is why we don't have better reflections or 3D grass, etc. I think those just haven't been baked into the game yet. And when/if they come, there should be an option to turn them off so that lower end machines can still play.
Look at products like X Plane 10 (flight simulator). I don't know of a machine in the world that can run that game at the highest possible settings. But that didn't stop the developers from building the game to allow for the highest possible visual experience.

The issue is fully reflective water is baked into the course file so if we add it to the courses then everyone is stuck with it until we find a way to programatically replace the reflective water with a cube map one on load. I am sure this is possible but it will just take some time. Right now we are focused on some of the other things like tournaments and animations.
Anyone out there want us to put the animations and tournaments on hold so we can have fully reflective water?

Animations, no...tournaments...maybe.Anyone out there want us to put the animations and tournaments on hold so we can have fully reflective water?
I'm just hopeful this is ironed out before people start cranking out CF courses...or perhaps it won't matter if you tweak water down the line and the changes will work on older courses automatically?

Definately get some things fixed first like animations and tournaments. As far as people cranking out CF courses, it's looking like quite some time before anyone gets there hands on it other than the handful of beta testers. It's water, it looks just fine, stay out of it and your scores will REFLECT IT.....LOL!!

CF users can make courses with reflective water - in fact K11 has just made one.

Mike, what kind of trade-off with other assets would have to made for a full sized course? For instance my local course has no trees, just the occasional gorse bush. Would this type of course lend itself to the use of reflective water?

I know this probably seems ridiculous to some people but will the water wave direction ever correspond to the actual wind direction for a round?

Ah! Makes perfect sense now.
I'd much rather you guys continue working on animations and tournaments and then come back to the rest of the eye candy. My order would be 3D grass, water reflections, and then everything else.

Sure! Here's a sample of the increase in FPS I'm getting.
Hidden Canyon #1 Tee with rendering on my FPS is 14. At a rate like this the swing meter would stutter like crazy.
With the rendering stopped during the swing the FPS jumps as high as 77. Meter is smooth as silk.
I love it.

Buck when we have tournaments are you not going to play? Having tournaments is a big deal I would say to 9 out of 10 players I would say as most of us want to compete not just sit there and look at it.

I might in the future, sure!
I wasn't saying "don't have tournaments" or anything - I also am always hoping for as close to leading edge graphics as possible as well.
It will all come it sounds like. ![]()

That's great news. over a 500% increase is nothing to sneeze at.
That might allow you to jack up you're graphics settings a tad and get a better all round look. ![]()

I believe the only reason to play video golf is to compete and without competition there really is no need to have the game. This is why all real gamers will tell you gameplay is without a doubt more important than how a game looks.
