Whether it seems ridiculous or not... the developer should always provide content that they think their market wants.

Having fantasy or arcade modes, shouldn't take away from the Simulation modes.

This game, however, is lacking a true tutorial mode, that would indicate distance in a more straightforward manner. (I.E. A Flag Indicator on the Full Swing Meter)

So, unless guys are willing to buy into the inherent steep learning curve of this game... we should continue to expect a certain portion of players to give up, early on.

Tutorial mode?   If you can't figure out how to play this game, then quite frankly... you have no business playing any golf game.  Gamers can pick up FPS, MMPOGs or other sports games, which can be much more complicated that a golf game, without even bothering with the manual...

I think anybody with any golfing experience will pick up the gameplay pretty fast.what is needed is some kind of help on the settings on what they do to help or hinder game performance.some players including me have no idea on what some of the things do to the game.i remember seeing something on the steam website a while back on what they do (graphic settings).im pretty sure all the new players coming in is going to be lost and the game run bad for them....I know it's not the best golf game out there but the winning putt game has a tutorial when u first start, taking u thru a lot of of the things in the game..

I have to echo concerns about new users being confused...

I had *extensive* Motion Swing experience and even I was mystified when I first dug into RTS-M...

There are lots of areas like that in PG at the moment and I think we have a hard time realizing and relating to what it's like for new users as we are deep in the woods here.  Impossible to see the forest through the trees for all of us forum people at this point.

Hopefully PP brings in some golfers/golf game fans that have zero experience with PG to better understand what needs to be addressed and what sorts of changes would be helpful to make for a better user on boarding process..

IMHO This game has far to many "It works fine for us" responses to criticism of the game.  :)

And now the overall rating has come down to 'mixed'.

Pretty unfair considering the oft-mentioned issues aren't really issues.  You don't need to buy a season pass.  You don't need to pay for new courses.  Even if new clubs and balls that produce slightly different results turn up in the pro shop, you don't need to buy them to compete - if that ever changed I'd be the first one to complain.

As far as Steam Reviews go, I've never bought a game based on any review written there. I did use their Forums briefly, but found many posts and replies 'demanding'. Todays world of online help, seems the 'norm' and not appreciated. If everyone can avoid posting something that causes a retaliatory response, the things written would be worth reading again. Steam, for me, has become a hostile playground.

As for the Manual, I feel it should be available. We are likely to see one, based upon the previous 'older' manual that was available in early test builds. When it arrives, I'm sure it will be very helpful. This thread is indication it is needed, obviously.

It is entirely possible I have a brain disorder, I've not been tested, but for me this is the best simulation of golf ever produced and I cannot relate to all the negativity at all. Works fine for me.

Absolutely. Even with its missing pieces and imperfections, PG is a great game. I've never had as much fun playing a golf game.

Let me see, it cost me $20 and I've played 1129 hours so far. (I know, I'm not hardcore) um, er, Wow, that's pretty cheap!

You gotta look at the Steam forums overall and realize it's a cesspool of whiny teenagers and moronic ideologies. Why anyone would think any game reviews are an accurate account by anyone with any common sense is pretty far-fetched. JNPG probably has a higher ratio of signal to noise in the reviews only because we tend to be an older, more mature* group.

I generally read steam reviews before buying but I'd like to think that I've got enough intelligence to skip over those those that are clearly fabricated to damage the product and make a reasonably informed decision.  I do however think that there is some merit to certain points being raised, even in the irrational reviews, things such as lack of documentation, no career mode, issues with multiplayer, other odd bugs and lack of course designer.

When comparing this to TGC which doesn't have a similar number of bugs, does provide an easy to pick-up course designer and feels like a more complete 'game', I can see why this is receiving pretty average press.

I love this game and personally feel that it's more akin to playing real golf than any other golf software previously released but it's worth the devs taking on board some of the comments raised in a dispassionate way and dealing with them swiftly to reduce their impact.

I guess I look at things a little differently.  I don't take a negative review personal. No more so than if someone likes chocolate icecream and I like vanilla.  :)

I do look at it as wasted money.  It costs money to get someone to look at your game. (being on Steam is not free) And easily dismissing negative criticism (no matter how moronic) is IMHO flushing money down the drain.   :)

WOW I went out and read some of them.....WOW.... I can see the concern for lack of tutorial( I am thinking of recording what I can for this) and even I was a little shocked to see this go gold without components of the game(CF). But to to slam graphics and gameplay just shows the real intention of the reviewer is to slam the game not give an honest review. One said it was arcade(WTF). I purchased TGC for XB1 then the PC thinking it would be better...nope... now that being said, that is my opinion the  game may be the munster cheese for someone else but I never  once went out and slammed it. And as far as career mode as far as I know Rory is the only one with that and the gameplay there is lacking. Hole for Hole JNPG is the best golf sim..SIM...SIMULATION out there right now. I personally am floored by some of the graphics. My brother and I play and are stunned at some of the beautiful courses. Now I am not saying there is nothing wrong with PG as anyone that has ever played a video game will agree, there is always something that could be better. I know, you know and the devs damn well know it, that is why they do it. I do use steam reviews to base purchases a lot of times....most of the time they are pretty good judge, but not always. Devs///keep up the good work, Course designers..Thank You and please continue. Now release the Kracken...or at least CF

I don't really look at steam reviews.but what I do is go to YouTube and watch videos of the game being played to see if I would like it before I buy it.

Some people's eyes are literally broken...or they are just incredibly biased and trying to fit the argument to the narrative they want to push.

I had a back and forth with someone yesterday who insisted that PG looks "no better than Tiger 99".

I showed him photos of each (below) and he still insisted that PG just really just "looked smoother" but otherwise looked the same.  LMAO

  :)

Umm - ok...

Don't want to derail this topic.  Regarding swing anis, Tiger Woods 99 has the best swing ani of ALL games so far, including LInks, and the current Rory.

They truly mocapped Tiger's swing.  Even the later games didn't have the fluid motion.

TGC has the worst swing ani I've ever seen.  I don't understand why you would make a game over a couple years, and then mocap cousin Eddie, or a meathead.

But, gamers and not true-golfers don't care.  They don't see it.
