And now down to earth. Congrats Skunky on an excellent 76 on the tricky greens at Southampton Links. Still very pleased with my 80.

(Tried to upload scorecards but PP says I've already used up my 86K allowance - seriously?)

Hi Ted, enjoyed watching your Sawgrass round. Will try to do one of my round once I figure out how to do the YouTube uploading/linking thing.

Sorry Ted, after seeing your excellent Sawgrass score I only went and played the best BARE round I've ever done. You were robbed, mate. It helped to have played a NAP round at Tour Pro just before - honed that swing. Not to mention an outrageous 4 at the par 5 16th - hit a hybrid 2nd shot beyond the pin into water, dropped, and chipped in for birdie...

wow joe almost zen like! who needs an HUD with scores like that.congrats.

A great round Joe. I'm impressed.

Well this goes to show that you (well some of us) can take your score under par using BARE. I don't know what this means. If people can shoot a score without any aids apart from a caddy then this has reached a whole new level.

I have to say that after going back and playing a round with the HUD there is too much information and it's making the job too easy. All that golf from 100 yards in is dial a number.

After reading about the NAP guys enjoying aids free putting I'm wondering if a refined, sensible and effective BARE type golf with a more practical way to choose clubs etc. will be the future.

Just been watching the recording of my Sawgrass round and was shocked to see how fast I happen to play. Under 18 mins from teeing off on #1 to holing out on #18. Some of that is due to home course knowledge - knowing when to club down, where to draw round trees etc - but even so. I can make dumb mistakes playing this quickly, but if I deliberately slow down I tend to lose tempo and especially so on sand shots and drives, for some reason.  I'd like to slow down and think more about strategy etc, but the swing does suffer.  Anyone else experience this? Other things I noticed from the vid is a little back-and-fore practice swing (just with the mouse) up near the top of the screen to make sure I'm reasonably aligned. A bit like the waggle in real golf. Anyone else have quirks like that?

Ted, great tip about cycling to a full shot for a "pitch" like shot.  Very useful around the greens.

Nice shooting Joe!

I don't think I can ever go back to using the HUD either.

A fully manual caddy would be really nice in the future.

Another things I've realised - I stick with the golfer view rather than follow cam for more realism. You lose foreknowledge of ball behaviour on the green etc, but I think you get a better return-putt read when lagging long putts because you get a steady view of the roll (except when the damn golfer ani gets in the way of course. Grrr.)

Yes Joe, I've got a mouse waggle too. It helps to get things moving. I just hope mine doesn't develop into the yips.

18 minutes is rapid. I can lose a bit of time walking to a high point to check the lay of the land but I thought I was quick generally. I rarely used the F5 but I did recently rediscover in the free cam thread that it can be set at your desired speeds so I'll use it more. I mainly use it to get a side view of the elevation.

I have thought about the realism of the golfer view and the advantage you can get by watching the ball react on the green. I have 'Player' view with a forward snap and that's only because it is more entertaining - but I would certainly go with the full Player cam which I have used a lot in the past.

One more thing I have noticed is I am slowly judging half-shot and pitch distances more accurately.

I reduced each of my videos from about 1.3 Gb to about 300mb with "Handbrake". It retains the MP4 format but a slider will reduce it in quality to anything you prefer. I do that before uploading to Youtube to save loading time. Then it's just a matter of posting the Youtube URL in your forum post.

Yes, I've found that too - especially those 60-70 yard shots where the caddy hands you a LW or whatever and tells you to give it full whack (distances where I would normally opt to pitch). I rarely hit 3/4 shots normally but you have to here if the pin looks a bit close.

If we could just have wind direction, club in hand and shot type without any yardage this type of play would garner more players over time. Most players are OK with the lack of info except when to come to these three. Access to the overhead map would also help. An adjustable HUD would be the answer with of course the ability to lock things in. I do access the other shots when I feel I need to with the exception of the flop which I never use. I just like having the small variety that is there. I feel those shots allow me to be more easily creative with the ball and recovery options. I used the  HUD for about a sec on the tee each time at Carroch Loch just to check wind direction. I would advise anyone playing my new home conditions to use the HUD briefly to check wind. Had a blast in those high winds as they were throwing my ball around.

The HUD is useful in helping with creating a yardage book and practice mode. Really enjoying myself and hopefully will be providing some more competition soon if I keep at it. We will find that time taken which in the beginning is considerable and for thinking players can really take a lot of time investment is one of the main obstacles to BARE play. Some players will play well quickly but there will be many players that try it and end up increasing their time to play considerably. Enjoying the journey.

RTS-Horizontal is amazing.

If you look at the above illustration it shows an exaggerated swing path if I want to play a draw. That path would result in a massive hook but it shows what I'm trying to do. I take the mouse back straight then come back inside and then a long swing to the outside, finishing with a follow through which feels like you are turning the club head over.

So your JNPG swing is remarkably like the path of a real life draw. It now feels like I'm swinging in a natural fashion compared to real life. Subtle changes in path result in subtle changes in the ball's flight path. I like to get the in/out or out/in on the range to about 6 (is it degrees?) for a neat little draw or fade.

Now, the Heel and Toe read outs confuse me. The way I read it is that coming through the ball at point of impact has to be dead straight to get a 0 read out. What I would like to know, if someone has the information, is if it is possible to get a 0 Heel or Toe if you come across the ball? Would you have to angle the mouse to keep it pointing straight down the line of the swing path? I'm assuming this read is at point of impact - which is the point where your mouse was at address.

15 minutes on the range this morning and it all fell into place. Drawing, fading and straight shots at will. So cool.

In your diagram the position of the ball would be the point where the red line begins and the green line intersects that point (see below).   This illustrates a zero offset swing with an in/out path.  If the green line passed by that same starting point but was either slightly above or below the initial starting point you would have a heel/toe offset.  So, yes, you can have a zero heel/toe offset when swinging across the ball and, no, you wouldn't have to angle the mouse (since the body of the mouse simply rotates around the central sensor point).

(Ted, how do you embed your videos in actual post?)

Make sure you go to your channel like a subscriber and start watching your own video. Copy the link almost immediately. It should have the word "watch" in the link somewhere. Paste the link in your post and that is it I believe without using the link option at the top. Just copy paste it.

using the link edit command on the bar at the top:
