This is true, but as the game automatically logs you in on boot up, everyone online is logged into the chat lobby. You have to manually log out when playing solo rounds in one of the pre-round screens if you want to be removed from the lobby, and how many players do that, see a need to, or even know they can, or how to do it?

There is no option in the settings to disable the log-in and the next time you boot up the game you're logged in again, so apart from a very few in-the-know, paranoid JNPG players, my statement was correct!

Lemme see if I've got this right... if I boot the game up, never go into the multiplayer lobby and go into tournaments, I will still show up as player in the lobby list?  To prevent this from happening, I would have select lobby at the outset and then exit right back out of it after it loaded up, and go back to the tournament menu to avoid showing up as a player in the multiplayer lobby?

Once a year? That would be the Madden, NBA2k, NHL etc.... model.

I mean it is pretty standard in sports gaming. The customer base knows that there is a new game every year. And they pay for it.

With an ongoing development the devs have to discuss every DLC. (remember season pass!?)

If it is clear that we get a new version every year (or every two years) the business model would be clear to all. You can choose if you want to have the new stuff or if you are satisfied with the content the last years version had.

Surely, anyone with experience in producing and selling games knows what they are going to do well in advance of doing it. With a clear time plan and awareness of what features are  going to be implemented is it that difficult. They should make their decisions and stick to them good or bad. Remember the farcical situation with pay or not to pay with user created courses. In all that kerfuffle I remember saying to PG just make your mind up and stick to it. Sometimes I might not like what they plan to do but you can't please  everyone all of the time. Dithering about doesn't inspire confidence.

If managed correctly regular updates should allow customers the chance to pass on those they don't like. Save 'em up for once a year suggests that you take it all or leave it all. I'd much rather have the first option.

Adobe switched to a monthly plan for their products. i have the photography bundle (£8.99 a month = £108 per year). When regular updates come out I can benefit from them straightaway without waiting. This is invaluable to my work and hobbies. And adobe don't consult their customers about what to include either. Works all the same.

To the first bit, yes to solo play. I presume tournament play is the same but I don't play them so haven't tested.

To prevent it from happening, when creating a solo game you click the red box with the white cross in at the top of the chat window on the second setup screen where you enter the player and AI's before starting the round. This disables the chat log-in. There is no way to re-enable this that I know of other than exiting JNPG and rebooting the game.  It will then log you in again automatically.

All one has to do is click on the join tab and then global chat can be re enabled there.

The votes keep trickling in, but I have a hunch that we'll see a surge in the voting here once Perfect Parallel releases some video with the new 3-D grass and golfer animations.  It sounds like we might not be far from seeing that.

Will the new version still require Steam? Sorry if this was answered earlier, but I didn't want to scan 11 pages of posts.

No. AFAIK from info that has been shared the new Win 10/DX11  version will move away from Steam and make use of Microsoft LIVE (not to be confused with the now defunct Games for Windows LIVE).

That's good news (I think). Now they just need to fix the AI (oops...that's just one thing they need to fix). BTW...will Mac users be able to use it (I know a Mac user that hates Steam...he kinda hates Microsoft too...but not as much. Like they say, you can pick your friends but you can't pick your relatives...thank god he'll never read this).

Wonder what this live service will cost?

Currently for Xbox Live it is $60 a year (US).    Can you imagine?   Having to pay to play video games online?   But its been like this for a while now, so it should not be anything new.

Dont know if things have changed, but back in 2015 when Microsoft were working on the XBOX Live for PC, they stated PC users would not have to pay the subscription that console gamers do.

This obviously caused XBOX Live Gold users to have a fit.

I'm sure Andrew will know whether a subscription will be required or not for the new Win10 portal.

No decision has been made about this yet. There is no technical reason why we cannot support dx11+ gaming on Steam.

Appreciate that is possible MJ as I run iRacing thru Steam and that is now DX11.

I was talking more about the Win10 version which I believe is being geared towards Microsoft XBOX Live and moving away from Steam?

Please correct me if I've got the wrong end of the stick.

As I said , no firm decisions have been made yet. Many games are available on both Steam and the windows 10 store so I see no reason why we cannot do the same.

Sounds like an ideal compromise in many ways. Im guessing only issues that causes would be multiplayer, as to which servers would be used, and DLC / courses /sim pass license checking etc etc

The community is already somewhat divided.   If you add Windows 10 features to the current steam version as well, some will just stay on the steam version.   You would then be dividing the community even further with multiple platforms/lobbies, as they will not be able to play with each other.

Besides that, once you go this route, you will have to continue adding features to all platforms, along with chasing bugs across all platforms.  Sounds like it could be a big mistake.

If I have to pay a gaming service a fee as well as buy the game and its DLC's, count me out. Not a gamer, only play JNPG.

These are indeed some of the things we have to consider. All good points.
