I'm on board with this thought as well as using not only DirectX 11, but DirectX 12 to keep it current as well!  That said, a Steam version could just as well use Windows 10 and DirectX 11 & 12, but with the expense of all the points Zmax makes several posts up.

I agree on the decision to go to directx12.  After all, not only is dx9 obsolete, so is dx11 soon enough.

Interesting development for Windows 10 gaming.....

https://youtu.be/Zc-ka42BMls

Microsoft has been busy detailing the Game Mode coming to Windows 10, a new tool within the OS which provides frame rate boosts by automatically minimizing other processes. It’s actually already included with the latest insider build of Windows 10, although there’s going to be a period of testing before it rolls out to standard users.

The system works by focusing your GPU and CPU almost entire on the Game Mode enabled process, restricting other applications. In this sense it’s quite console-like in dedicating your PC to a single task. Microsoft’s aim with Game Mode is two fold - raising the overall frames per second in all games; an improvement in frame times and frame consistency. The latter means we should see a little less stutter and is achieved by limiting CPU thread bottlenecks which may occur when running a game alongside the existing system processes.

Naturally enough Game Mode works with UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps such as Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4 and ReCore, but it also works for standard win32 programs running straight from your Steam library. But, and it’s a big but, Microsoft has said the performance improvements will be greater for UWP games. Microsoft has explicitly optimized the service for UWP apps which is why we should these larger FPS gains.

I can see where that would be of great benefit to JNPG players.  I will certainly help levelize the play and performance experience on Windows 10 PCs!

Hopefully it will.  People are missing out on the best, stable OS Windows has made imo.

I suppose you also need to have the proper hardware as well.   I had a decent enough laptop running W7, did the W10 hardware compatibility test and of course, everything was signed, A-OK... so, decided to install the free W10 upgrade.  What a mistake as the laptop is running like crap under W10.    Hardware and driver incompatibility, slow and sluggish.. I am at the point of wiping the the thing out and reinstalling W7 again.    Point is, sure be great for everyone to upgrade (not just for this game), but no doubt you will have to make sure your hardware is somewhat current too!   I was dumb to not do my research and got easily swayed with the "free" upgrade!

Agree. W10 is by far the best OS I've ever used. Is it perfect? No. But it's still the best bet yet.

Try a clean install of Win 10 before reverting back as it could be some incompatible software/drivers left behind. Your free upgrade will still be good.

How would I do that when I just upgraded from Win7 to Win10 via the free download/upgrade?

Just format the drive after downloading the win10 installer tool, create a USB or CD install disc it will recognize your cloud registered PC. That is what I have done and it makes a big difference in load times.

That was unfortunate for you and I am sorry your computer was not new enough to agree with the change.  If you update you computer in the near future you may then want to give it another go.

Is this still a possibility? I would like to have this game, on both pc and ps4. I do not want to download and install the current jnpg simply because I would not want to turn around in a month or so and pay for a newer, better version.

For now I will hold off on purchasing anything until I know for sure what is happening.

I think it's a certainty more than a possibility, but what we can't project is when it will hit the market.  I don't think it's going to be before October, based on what I can read from the tea leaves.  The fact that we haven't seen any video showing Turf Effects in action within the game suggests to me that it's not on course for the first quarter release speculated upon last Fall.  I think they're planning on introduce all the sexy new features: Turf Effects, SpeedTree Instancing, DirectX 11/12 support, Career mode, new hi-res mo-capped golfer animations, XBox One cross platform playability, at one time.  It's going to take a while to get all these ready for the mass market.

There is a big difference of being loyal and submissive, We where told when we bought this game we would have it to play as long as we wanted and we or seeing that it might cost us even more money to play it. when is this going to stop,or is this the beginning of another money grabber. losing interest in this game very quickly.
