Just curious.
* What will be the differences between the Steam version, and the non-Steam version?
* Will there be any differences in the playability of the two versions?

all along they said that this game would be added to by updates (paid or unpaid) and that pp is not Interested in recharging people (for a new game) to get the continued progress of the game. Ie. (EA sports) That impressed me back when I bought the game on steam.
Yeah that's what the devs have said all along in interviews, Twitch broadcasts and here in the forum. Didn't take them long to go back on their word. Releasing JNPG and 8 months later announce it's no longer getting significant updates is a slap in the face to the Steam owners in my opinion. How do they expect people (current owners or otherwise) to plunk down money for a new version with horrible business practices like that? They could very easily turn around and do something similar to owners of the Xbox One/Windows 10 version a year from now. I doubt a Xbox One/Windows 10 version will be any more successful than the Steam version anyway.
I would think if pp wasn't going to release a stand alone seperate pc or console version they probably would come on here and tell you that. No response most definately would mean that there will be a. Seperate version and the updates discussed with motion capture and career mode probably won't be coming to this version. (Thats a little disappointing ).
I paid for a game called Perfect Golf which was supposed to have all the features under the sun including a fully fleshed out career mode. If they are going to charge for a new version why should I pay for it when already have?
Did I pay for a game called "Half Arsed Finished Golf"?
I don't think there is anything keeping Perfect Parallel from updating the Steam version (other than Microsoft financial incentives) with 3D grass, Speed Tree instancing, mo-capped golfers, etc. 3D grass only requires DX 11 capable GPUs (on Windows 7 and newer operating systems), so the DX version could be chosen in the settings (as it can be for many games nowadays). From there if DX 11 is chosen other options will come up like whether or not the player wants 3D grass.

@yes. They have not stopped supporting or updating the steam version. They are a small company and can't do everything at one time. Just because they're working on an XboX version, doesn't mean all their plans for the game have vanished for the steam version.
Well, since the devs aren't throwing their 2 cents in we're just left with info from beta testers who say the Steam version will only receive bug fixes and multiplayer support.

Andrew posted a while back about charging for "mile stone" updates or big improvements to the game. It appears the Windows 10 will be that mile stone update. Most paid $20 for this steam game 2 years ago, which now includes CF. How can you expect the Devs to be working on a big update/new version of the game and not wanting to charge money for it? The current steam version will continue to work. Up to this point, there's been lots of free updates. They've only had a ball and 3-4 DLC courses which didn't bring in a boat load of money.
After 2 years, I'll be more than happy to pay another $20-35(cost of 2 people going to the movies) for a new version of the game that includes 3D grass, new animation, etc....Perhaps, as good will towards current steam owners, they'll offer an upgrade discount. That's what I would do.

My guess is it has to do with time and resources. They don't have an abundance of either to allow them to work on multiple platforms properly. They want this game out on Xbox very soon. Windows 10/Xbox will be like killing two birds with one stone. To also update the current steam version with Dx11 and 3D grass while also working on Win10/xbox, could mean no Xbox version till next year or longer. That would be a big mistake imo.
And IMO, nothing wrong with any financial incentives. If they don't make money, what would be the point?

zmax, I agree with you. However, I see three issues with this topic.
1. I believe it was buck that posted that forums attract more complaints and/or negative comments than positive one. This topic is a good example imho.
2. There are some posters that post in a manner that makes it appear that they either are part of the development team or that they have inside information. I doubt that either is the case. Too many posts in this topic sound like 'facts', when they are really just 'speculation'. I would suggest that speculation be so labeled and let's leave the facts to those that really know, i.e. direct members of the development team. These posts just stir the pot and create unnecessary anxiety.
3. I believe that comments by a member of the development team, in topics like this, would keep the lid on. Then maybe, they want the turmoil and confusion to keep the interest up, who knows?

Completely agree with you Richard.
For the record, I have no inside knowledge aside from beta testing. My comments are speculations. Only fact was what Andrew posted a while back about charging for Mile Stone updates.

Wind back 12 months or so to the furore about charging for user created courses and the cry "they have to make money somehow". For the umpteenth time I'll say that I'd pay £50 for a top notch version of this game. Things like DX11 and 3D grass might move it in that direction but so many other parts of the game are far from top notch.
This WIN10 move seems like the perfect time to go top notch. If it can't be done at that time I doubt that it ever will be.

Clearly I have no idea what I'm talking about. Career mode and all the stuff the devs have talked about for the Steam version, it's gone. Just because the devs haven't responded to this thread.

I'm sure I qualify as one would be seen by some as meeting point 2 above. I try to couch everything I say as speculation based on what I've been able to piece together. I'm sure could do a better job of qualifying all of what I'm saying as speculation. Truth be known, I have no clue how Perfect Parallel is going to package and market the Windows 10 version of JNPG. I have seen enough to strongly suggest that only the Windows 10 version will get 3-D grass, career mode, mo-capped golfers, Unity 5.5, and SpeedTree instancing. I'll also freely admit that it's all based on personal, armchair quarterback speculation.
Your point 3 says it all... I don't think any of us, including myself, should really hang our hat on anything until we hear officially from one of the devs. I'm sure they'll speak to it when they have something concrete, and confirmed, to add.

That's all well and good but if the Xbox one only supports for 10 courses and the windows 10 version has 100 courses how is this going to be cross platform gaming?.
As much as I'm willing to speculate, I can't scrape up enough tea leaves to make a guess as to how course distribution will work for the XBox One. I will say that it'll be considerably more than 10, but I'd also say that the number of courses available to Windows 10 PC version players will always be more than the XBox One. As an XBox One owner, I wouldn't feel like I was deprived of cross platform gaming if I only had 20 to 25 courses to start out with. I'm sure what will be packed with it will be popular courses that you'll have no trouble finding Windows 10 players to hook up with.
I'd wager that Perfect Parallel is going to announce their user course distribution plans for XBox One owners before the game is launched on said platform. That's when we can start having a more informed discussion about this... meanwhile, it's too easy to paint this in the most minimalistic terms.

I'm sure it must have gone over my head, but I missed the bit about Perfect Golf, in its maiden iteration was to have career mode. I think the upgrades that PP have made to the game have been considerable, since it hit the Early Access market for $20. The reported changes and additions that are being touted for the Windows 10 version constitutes a new version of the game in my eyes. You may see it differently, and that's fine, it's all based on our personal opinions. The free market will ultimately decide whether the Windows 10 version is something worth paying for.

The game will be too fragmented if the course list for console and windows 10 are not the same, how would OGT/PGLS work if the courses list isn't the same?, will we be even able to use OGT/PGLS on console?.
The number of console/pc golfers is small so fragmenting them won't work and this game will die quickly.
Posted 17 January 2017 - 01:46 AM
..... and this game will die quickly.
People have been predicting/wishing for the death of PG since before it was released. Hasn't happened yet GB or Stopits.
Posted 17 January 2017 - 01:57 AM
Consoles will be just another device as far as OGT is concerned. So yes. consoles will be able to play on OGT.
Fragmenting could happen, but I'm willing to bet that most people playing on pc now will upgrade to the Windows 10 version eventually. As more and more people upgrade to Win10/Xbox, the PG steam lobby will become a ghost town.
