Could be, Buck. Between the Masters and the next big tournament seems to give them a month or two. The end of the year may give them another two- or three-month window, maybe? Who knows? I thought PP had hired a programmer once upon a time.

Nope, playing same build. I am not sure why you are trying to crap all over a game you know very little about.

The stream showed:

1. Two of the easiest courses in the game

2. Two DEVS who have been playing the game for over a YEAR. One was playing on the lesser difficulty Player clubs.

Their intent was NOT to show how freaking difficult it can be and scare off hundreds if not thousands of users. Most users are casual users and are not interested in a grinding simulation.

That is all I care to comment. Again, I have played BOTH games extensively and you have not.

I know its been quiet around here so I thought it was probably time we posted an update on what we have all been up to....

From the few recent releases we have continued to fix a few bugs in the existing version of JNPG and also continue to push changes to the Simulator Version and supported devices.

The beginning of the year for us is always taken up with improvements and upgrades to our Broadcast Suite Products in preparation for the new Golf Season.

However, since we returned from our TV work in Georgia we have been hard at work on a lot of base improvements to the underlying engine.  Without getting into too many details we realized that without a significant improvement to both our networking and our internal event system we had reached the limit of the performance improvements and functionality adds we could continue with.  So we decided now was the perfect time to revisit both of these tasks.  These efforts will result in a much simpler set of game play code which will make fixing certain bugs much easier without impacting other areas of the code as well as vastly reduce the amount of data being sent back and forth between the players in a game.  This will in turn lead to a much smoother game play.  This redesign will also allow us to open up much more freedom within the game to allow for players to play independent of the other players thus allowing Fast Play, Turn based individual play where you are always in control of your player and not being moved by the camera system in a turn based style.  It will also open up things like other players on the course and spectators.

We realize that it feels like we are not doing much with the game at this time but this is far from the case.  This rather boring work is necessary to move the game to the next level.  The improved network performance will buy us some much needed CPU performance which can be used to further the visuals in the game.  We are working hard with the new Unity 5.5 lighting system to develop a much more immersive and depth based lighting that will make the game feel more alive.  Sometimes you just have to take a step back to take a leap forward.

We have finished 90% of the Turf Effects integration for the initial pass at its inclusion in Perfect Golf.

I am sure many of you are interested in some of the other items we have talked about including Career Mode and as we have more details we can divulge we will of course discuss them but rest assured Career Mode is most definitely part of the new development cycle.  As of course are new characters with some customization capabilities as well as new animations.

We will be pushing 1.4.2.4 this weekend.  Mostly a bug fix release plus a work around for the fact that Steam has broken the invite system.  Also includes many simulator improvements

Please feel free to ask any questions in this thread and I will attempt to answer them to the best of my ability.  We are working hard on a lot of improvements to the game but many of them are very fundamental to the engine and do not produce much to talk about.

Questions grasshoppers, questions!  This thread seems way off topic now.

Question/comment:

I am really hoping the new lighting system improves the look of the trees. As I've started designing in CF, I can see dark green hedges and trees in Unity. As I move to the game with dynamic skies set to on, the trees become too light, bright, and faded. The faded, bleached pine trees have been mentioned on the forum before. I assumed it was a speed tree thing, but now appears to be a lighting issue. I have noticed better colors with dynamic skies turned off.

Have you seen better tree visuals in your redo of the lighting?

The whole forum is mostly off topic and intermixed on different threads.

That's sort of what happens when meaningful updates come maybe once a year.

The "feature requests" sub forum on its own might as well be closed down honestly.

It's like a suggestion box with a hole in the bottom that feeds down into a paper shredder.

Are we apt to see the following additions within the next few months:

1) a female golfer?

2) a left-handed golfer?

Thanks.

Regards the ani's I personally would say not.

The new build they are working on now looks to be the priority and getting the gameplay element sorted. I think everything else PP have spoken of as being brought to the game will now be delayed further.

No

Next major update will "hopefully" happen in 2017, but no promises, per Andrew a couple days ago.

Also, I don't actually think the next update will have any changes to the avatar, or if it will, I missed that news.

Oh my god! Perfect Golf has become an industry joke. I knew it!

"Waiting for PerGo" - a new play by Samuel Beckett (and an old joke).

My retirement age has been put back by a year by the authorities and Perfect Golf development fades into the distant future. Could life be any more frustrating?

Hi Ted,

I know this is said with a little tongue in cheek but yes life can be way more frustrating. Count your blessings you've made it this far relatively unharmed. Whether any of us make it to the next update remains to be seen.  ;)

It is all pretty much about perspective. I just I hope I make it to the point (2-5 years maybe) where this game reaches it's potential. Many people are fickle so when that happens all will be forgiven by many. I pop in here every once in a while. I even pull out my clubs from time to time. Honestly, I have many more other things that deserve my attention at this point in real life. This...this is nothing to worry about..really it isn't. It's their game, we just play it. I don't read any panic or concern about where this is headed between the lines from Mike or Andrew. They sound pretty confident to me.

In the meantime, we wait and some of us discuss things as if they are kin to life or death sometimes. Plus, so many games, so little time. Oh and I get that for some this is their only thing; still though, not really life or death is it. Let me put it to everyone this way. When the time comes for all of us. I do not see many of us giving this game much thought in our final moments.

Cheers,

SC

To most of us from what I can tell we just play the game we got and when an update comes it comes. The game we have right now is light years ahead of anything else out there gameplay wise and hey we just got another reflective water course so I am good. Just play and compete and let the chips fall where they may.

This game is taking for ever. As a matter of fact, I think it will never really be 'finished'. The Dev's have said so much in the past. Sure, me too, I am waiting and waiting and waiting for 'all the other stuff' etc to be added. It seems to take ages. But, that being said, like Greensboronclion wrote, this game is already so good, it keeps us coming back. It's like a drug I guess, You keep longing for more of it. ^_^

That's more of a reflection on the dreadful state of the golf game genre.

This game is dead in the water guys and sinking slowly but surely. It is simply a glorified demo in it's current state. And it's turning into something that loyal customers are starting to feel embarrassed about waiting for. There is a dawning realisation, whether you admit it or not, that all the things that need to be fixed or added to make this a success in terms of numbers WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

It's like waiting expectantly for the Beatles to get back together while only having Led Zeppelin II and having to play it over and over. Great album but too bored with it to put it on the gramophone.
