Have to be honest, I agree... I do enjoy PG but with Links, even though outdated and not as nice looking as PG, it just has everything built into it out of the box and then some. There is something for everyone. I understand that back then, there were no "work in progress" games, but if people are going to ask that very question, you will get an answer. That answer is all based on opinion anyway, so the only thing that matters is what you think is the best game out there.

Other than the career mode and female animations and option of playing lefties, what else does Links offer that makes you say

it has everything built in to it out of the box and then some

Not trying to be a smart ass, but I played Links from 1990 through to end of 2015 and just curious what stand out options it has in your opinion over JNPG, aside from those I mentioned.

capitaine stated that 'all round options still superior to perfect golf' - I find no fault with his statement but I find fault with yours.

Links was/is picture postcard stuff.  Individual stills from Links look as good if not better than PG !  Granted camera work in PG is way better than Links IMO.  Some courses in PG look worse than the best courses in Links - there I have said it!

How about better user-created customisation? - MOPs, ANIs, Soundscripts + the things you mentioned + a better RTS ;)

great moral for the folks trying to bring us a top shelf game, now the graphics are better on an antique game then it is on a new one.

you know i looked at links a bunch of times and i just don't see it, never did spend much time trying to learn it

for the graphics. oh well i guess we all interpret things in a different manner.

He did not say he prefers the graphics of Links

May be a petty thing but I like the ball animation on the greens a lot more than jnpg. Especially the backspin. Much more realistic than what's goin on in pg.

Dave, nobody actually is arguing...

I was just trying to be clear about what was actually said/not said by Capitaine

Mark is the one who mentioned Links and graphics - Not Capitaine.
Captaine likes the look of Rory as a target for PG.

(emphasis in the quotations was by me)

As far as I can tell, really nobody is saying Links is better looking that PG on the whole, just in some still situations where the photo-realism can obviously look pretty real.

on this graphics thing i do put this on the same level as EAs TWO was

never played any EA after they left us all hanging in the wind. but i would more then likely

agree with the Rory thing just never played it. my thinking is since i consider this about the same as TWO

then PG2 may be a lot like Rory, guess we just wait to see.

Something we can agree on!

Rory is a great looking game (that's about where the praise stops unfortunately).

It's not perfect, but given how reasonably it performs on PS4/XB1 hardware, they did a phenomenal job in the graphics area.

I can only imagine how sensational it could look if they still made a PC version that could take advantage of way way better hardware.

FIFA is a great example of how amazing Frostbite can look in 4k on amazing PC hardware that just destroys all the consoles at the moment.

don't know how many remember the target areas in the practice area on TWO

something like that would be great to hone the short game shots.

maybe some point comps there to

I would like to see the ability to place the courses folder on a different hard drive. My SSD is being filled with the courses so I have to swap and change all the time.

Also random pins and tees on a round.

The ability to move the golfer on the Tees.

i would even settle for something like when you get a drop

5 foot to the right 5 foot to the left,5 foot back buttons.

if they did something like that say in 1 foot increments

should be easy they already know how to move the animation.

and pretty much got the code, with a little editing.

You can do that now with a symlink or hard link I believe.

I haven't tried it lately but I'm pretty sure it was working for me last time I did it that way.
