my thoughts on the putting stroke is to have the meter speed tied to the distance from the hole.
instead of having more then one meter, the speed would progressively reduce as the distance to the hole becomes less.
this would do away with the feeling of panic trying to hit the bottom snap on a 5 foot putt.
the stress level is supposed to go down as your putts become closer to the hole.
Wouldn't that mean that we would have a quite similar putting mechanic like we have up to date? 12 o'clock would be what the little flag is right now. Maybe i have misunderstood.

FWIW in JN6 short putts did require 3 extremely quick clicks but the snap was a little forgiving as PG are going to do. Nevertheless it really didn't take long to get used to it.

Thats gonna suck. How are you gonna b able to click that fast for a 1 foot or less putt?
Rich skid on initial putt will keep it straighter. Plus i here closer putts will be a little more forgiving on the snap.

The swing meter is exponential not linear so the further around you go the more each degree adds to the putt.
Thanks Andrew for the heads up on the putting meter. The guys have been doing their best to give feedback on how this is working but I've been having a difficult time picturing this working successfully with a linear meter on very short putts, even with a more forgiving sweet spot at the snap location. With the exponential meter I can see this working, so thanks for chiming in with the info. I'm looking forward to trying this out when the update comes out.
Thanks everyone!

Looking excellent overall!
@AXE: do you know if objects like the wood barrier around the green cast shadows on the water?
Obviously there's plenty of reflection there, but I'm trying to figure out why the water doesn't look quite right to my eye.
I'm just curious if maybe the water doesn't receive shadows and that's it?
I don't know - Just can't pinpoint why the water looks a bit like "tin-foil" or something to me. Now that I think about it - does the water ever get totally glassy in the game? I can't really remember totally flat, perfect reflection water...anyone?

I feel like in this wind scenario the water should look more like this: (this is Sawgrass - not sure what real course Shadowlands is)

Funny you mention flat water, I just the other day put that request out to the dev's, I would love to see some glassy water..
Back to your first question, not sure about the wood reflecting, I would have to go back and check it out.
I believe I heard Mike say that the water really is hard on fps's, so maybe that's why it doesn't look quite right to you?
Mike had posted some screen shots a while back on some water that they would love to have so not sure yet.. Will keep in touch..
Update: I just went and checked on the wood reflecting and its very hard to tell because the water is moving so fast. That's another thing I mentioned, the water moves to fast for a calm breeze... Way to fast.. Lot of things on there plate right now, so we shall see..

Or this....

Seems like once wind is doing something to the water, it's reflectivity should drop a bit.
Notice how the water in these last 2 pics is slightly "matte" in it's appearance which makes the land/course features draw to your eye more?

I think in my pic the reflectivity has dropped a bit Buck, don't you? I just would like to see a still water and see what that looks like.

Yeah, maybe I need to see the PG implementation of still water to compare.
The shot you posted still looks like some type of "metal material" is doing the reflecting to me rather than water for some reason.
Obviously this is highly nitpicky stuff - haha.
What gets me on this track is when I just "glance" at the shot you posted, my eyes don't instantly identify land vs water in the distance like they do in the real world photos - Trying to track down what micro little thing is doing that, as our eyes are pretty keen on picking small stuff up that makes all the difference in how "real" things look.
Also - Perhaps this is all out of PP's hands due to the Unity engine handling this sort of stuff entirely?

I've been playing the new build and think the water is great.
I have not noticed if there is static water and would not like it
if there was. I don't expect much from golf-water, I don't care if
it's reflective, refractive, waving, rippling, rolling, falling, swirling,
splashing, surging, sprinkling, gushing, rushing,or flushing.
My only requirement is that it's wet and swallows my balls.

I think if the game is going to be authentic, there needs to be a scenario for flat glassy water, as many many AM golf rounds have exactly that scenario (and it looks great!)

Guess you didn't read the small print?
I do think the water is great as I said, and I look forward to
the day when I can see my Golf ball just below the surface and hit it.
I'm sure we will one day be able to have skipping contest too.

Judging someones standards by some satirical words typed into space is
also disappointing and reflective, pardon the pun.
My apologies then. I removed my "disappointing and non-reflective" words. Pun intended...
Still sorry to hear you think the water looks great. We need to require more of PG, when the time is right, of course.

Shouldn't the swing meter speed be the same as a putt in real life? This shouldn't require three very clicks in rapid succession.
The real golf swing doesn't have 3 clicks either. Why just pick faults with the putting?
