Agree that feedback of a constructive nature should be respected but when folks slam an update because there is no AI, galleries, Tournament feel etc. that to me is not feedback but just having a moan.

Fair enough on those points...

I really hope the cup physics continue to get some love.  The bug thread on cup physics is just filled with one frustrating example after another of "fun killer" issues relating to ball/cup interactions & physics.

This forum is too protective of the devs.  These guys are big boys, they can surely handle some criticism.  And if they are how I think they are then it only pushes them to make the game better and better.

I think we have a great product already and I'm excited about what the future holds but I still firmly believe that the next few releases need to include some rather substantial upgrades or people will begin losing interest.  It took too long (IMHO) for this last release and it didn't really do much to improve the game - in fact the changes to cup physics seemed to do more harm than good.  This was a minor issue prior to the latest release and it now seems to be one of the bigger issues affecting gameplay.  I'm not sure how that made it through beta testing.

I just ask that people keep an open mind when someone posts constructive feedback.  This forum is WAY too quick to jump all over them when all they are trying to do is help push the game forward.  If people are posting here then there's a good chance they are a fan of the game (there are exceptions of course) so let's just remember that we're all on the same team here.

I would just try to keep it short and to the point. Lengthy monologues on how the game is progressing too slowly are surely draining on a developer.

I agree about the cup physics :)

So do we. Aside from the community posting since 1.3.5.0 went out, we have also raised issues about them in private testing. But at least some credit to the Dev's for releasing build instead of keeping it back. Thankfully the cup issues are not on each and every putt but are becoming a little too common of late.

Just like to add that it's a difficult balance the Devs are faced with. Remember they listen on a daily basis to comments such as hurry up and let everyone have access to the new build. So they release it to try to keep people happy knowing full well that there are things they still need to work on. But as soon as they do, they then get hammered with why didn't you fix this, and how did the testers miss that? Trust me on this, between the Devs and testers almost nothing "is missed" but that doesn't mean we all agree on everything either. Or maybe it's as simple as there wasn't enough time to fix a particular problem. The Devs do their level best to try to reach that fine balance but at times it must feel like a thankless job. I know as an example there could four of us talking about just about any aspect of the game and you might have four slightly different opinions. Imagine what its like trying to please everyone? Just saying, we should all be thankful for what we have "today" and knowing that everyone involved is busy working towards making the game a little better "tomorrow". ;)

Good points.  However, I DO think that communication could be improved.  When they release something they should be explicit about what's working and what's not working.  Although they usually make general statements such as (it's not fully implemented yet) it's not always clear what is supposed to be working and what isn't.  So yes, when you do that you're going to leave yourself open to receiving multiple messages wondering why a stated new feature isn't working.

Communication is key.

Man, I feel communication is actually one of the strong points here. Pick a dozen other "in progress" software projects with forums, and see how developer feedback compares to this. It's all relative I guess. We paid $20 for early access, not for behind the scenes access. Not being an apologist, just being real.

That said, the little golf ball needs to drop into the cup a bit more naturally :)

Yea but why compare yourself to your peers if your peers suck?  I frankly do not care if another software house sucks at communicating.

I think we all could agree that communication could be better.  It's inconsistent at best.  But either way my point is simply that if you do a poor job of communicating then you're just opening yourself up to unnecessary questions.  And it's frustrating to see someone come on here and ask a honest question only to get jumped on by the community because this is the greatest golf game ever and everyone needs to be patient.

I don't see people getting jumped on, and I don't hear many people saying it's the greatest golf game ever. But yeah, everyone does need to be patient, for their own sanity!

Well, the physics seem more refined than ever.  Kudos to the team.  The new course also looks fine.  I also like the display options for the wind.  Some miscellaneous thoughts:

- Displaying the spin% and power% suggests that the user should just "do the math" to execute a good shot.  I wonder if the %-ages need to be so exact.  Would a descriptive term be more useful instead?  I don't know.

- Still seeing the bands in the bright blue sky.  I'm guessing the team just hasn't had the time to correct this graphics flaw.

- The water surface still looks second-rate.  Poor reflections.  No translucence.  The developers have bent over backwards to accommodate low-end PCs.  How about some water-related graphics options for high-end PCs?

- The F8 key has been disabled.  I miss it since I've always preferred to speed up the fly-by.

- Real-time weather still does not seem to work.

Here's a great post from early in the thread & then the next user jumping on him despite all of these comments being very fair and on point.

Oh Dear, Oh My, Aw Shit. No matter what position one takes or how well his intentions are, there's always a 'BUTT' to disagree. I guess that it's just life, so be it!!

No you're not wrong if you disagree, but the post I referenced was this:

Brother is there anything out there that can please you as this appearantly is not doing the trick.

...which isn't even remotely constructive.

A post like this one above should just not even be made quite frankly.

I have a question for those who feel the updates take too long, don't include enough new features and that the devs need to communicate more - how in gods' name are they supposed to be able to do all this in the same amount of time (or less) that it takes them to do what they have already been doing?

There are still only 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week and the devs spend an inordinate amount of that time on this game.  How do you code, read the forum and respond to posts all at the same time because that's the only way you can squeeze more out of the same number of hours.  Perhaps you're under the assumption that they only work 9-5, Monday to Friday?  I guess you've never seen them in-game all throughout the day on the weekends or at 2:00 am on a week night.

Hey, if we all chip in we could buy them a kilo of top quality Peruvian flake so they can work non-stop for days on end and put out more updates with more content in less time, all while keeping up a running commentary on the forums.

A life?  They don't need a life - we need more updates!

Joe my comment was mainly about more effective communication.  I wasn't implying that they should be forced into slave labor.

Yep I said that and I said it because I was tired of the whining going on and most of the time it's the same people that are doing the whining. What really is irritating some is that they are doing everything they can to help the guy with the low end machine to play the game and I applaud the Dev's for that. I have a high end one and play ultra but if they can make the game better so others can play with a lower unit I am all for it. It's not all about the eye candy and by the way the water is not 2nd rate I think it looks pretty good.

I'll leave the water to you and nightowl to debate.

It's unfair to simply call non positive or neutral feedback "whining" would be my only comment.

He thinks it's 2nd rate, you do not.  Nobody is whining...just disagreeing is all.
