I'm not a tester. It does seem like they've been directed to not show anything with the avatar/golfer view or putting though
I am a tester and I can assure you no one has directed us to not show anything. The avatar is still a work in progress. I think all in all everyone will be pleased with the new update. And hope everyone will understand that this game is a work in progress. And will have many things coming.

Like IDS says, the golfer animation is still the same one from U4 builds. Don't be expecting an all new animation just yet, because we have gone U5.
PP have already said once the U5 build is stable and they are happy game is running OK, they can push on with getting the animation updates worked on.

Just to add to the posts about the new putt meter.
Just been play testing @ Massachusetts and had a 50ft putt to the pin, which was up on the top level of the green, 20 inches above my player and the ball. Stimp running at 10. Hit the putt at 12 o'clock and it ran out to 70 ft.
Had the putt been flat I guess it would have gone a fair bit further.

That's because billboard trees are a thing of the past. Trees in the distance depending on your settings will have a lower LOD (level of detail) than trees up close but they still look far better than cardboard cut outs.
Awesome news about no more billboards!

Buck,
I quick preview if I may. The trees in the distance are over 400 yds away and I have camera distance set to max (2000). This pic has the tree quality slider at its lowest level of 0.5
In the wind the distant trees do not move, they are static, but still look OK.
On high setting of 6 for comparison (at higher levels distant trees move in the wind).
Just goes to show the improvements the new LOD settings for trees have made, as even at lower level settings, they are way better than the old billboards. Pics don't really do it justice, so hopefully not long before you get to see for yourself.

Great pics - thanks for posting!
The new tress are a huge upgrade, no question!

There is nothing to stop coursebuilders creating courses with refractive water. We don't because it uses a lot of performance which might be better spent in other areas. Once again I have to disagree with people who think the water and surrounds in 'the other game' looks great. It looks cookie cutter to me with every pond having a shoreline which is just not the way it is on 90% of real courses. The only time i really see refraction on a lake is when im looking down close to the edge of it and that scenario just doesnt occur that often. How many times have you seen refractive water on a pga tour course?Really awesome point. I think some transparency near the shorelines would Indeed help a ton with the look of realism.

will there ever be a practice green or we just continue to learn the new putting
while in round?

I believe we will get a practice range back.
I have had to lower tree detail a bit Jimmy as I must confess, I am taking a hit on fps compared to before with U4... Hopefully since this is all new, PG will get that dialed in, in due time... I have complete faith in PG...
But I can still play with tree detail around 2.70 and pretty smooth... But still a hit on fps's.. I am playing on HIgh too.
If you check the minimum specs for this game, those were taken from my rig. I now have a 750watt PSU and a GE Force GT 730 card but still the same 3.00 GHz Core 2 duo processor..So if I lowered down to Med, game play would really smooth out for me..
